| p8ntd dawurld, an thensum Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: NJ | I brought this topic up on the old MCB, but forgot where exactly we got with it. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried making a Drum Loaded Magazine System for paintball markers. With the invention of the Q-Loader, i figure why can't a Short n Stubby (wide) version be made? Also, some elements of the AT10, and AT85's belt clip track system could be implemented. Basically, something similar (maybe just in looks) to a Tommy Gun or Light Sub-Machine Gun with under or side mounted drum magazines. -baller |

There were some home brew drums for the SMG. Problem seems to be that you can't exert a whole lot of pressure on paintballs that would be required to feed them through the spiral of a drum magazine the way you can a bullet. Here's a bit of brainstorming (brainfarting?) on the idea. Use a system similiar to the warp feed. Two large discs feeding the balls through a spiral core. Might be more efficient space wise to come up with a system with balls being fed through two or three spirals. (to avoid having a skinny drum with a large -target- face area) That would require some sort of toggle at the feed that alternated the feed from the different spiral columns OR a clutch in the disk drives that only drove a column once the previous column had run dry. The latter would probably prove to be the best system if it could be made to be reliable. But clutches tend to be a weak link any any mechanical system. Could the Q-loader be made to look more like a drum? Probably Have we seen the last big innovation in feed systems? I doubt it.

NY | Weltman and Repo have a picture of a SMG with a drum from a tour of the Tippy factory not too long ago (last year or the year before...maybe a little earlier). We ran this one round in circles last year.... I eventually decided screw it and I was going to try and make a grav feed pan loader.... never got anywhere past paper as it was a pia to load. It can be done.... think clock spring and a good follower. Also if you cut a spiral groove into two discs then you have a track for the balls to feed along.... go from there! E

There is also a warp feed type setup that someone made for a 68 special, but IIRC bugs were not worked out of it. Drum feed is VERY posssible but would require a whole new gun to be fabricated. Ive got some ideas on this and hope to delve into them some more after my Henry/winchester project (my current build) and a few other misc things Ive got going on are finished. | |
