HPA Tank question

I recenly acquired a 45ci/4500psi Nitro Duck tank with Tuff Skin (smooth surface). I took off the old reg, to install my new Guerrilla Air Ambush reg, and found something interesting that I've never seen on tank before. The top edge of both the aluminum and the fiber are visible and level with each other. The tank is in great shape, and I don't think anyone would arbitrarily cut the top of an HPA tank, but that's what it looks like! Does this look strange to anyone else?

I think it's normal, due to the fact there is a slight depression cut out for the o-ring of a reg, but it just struck me as a little odd to see the edges of the tank and fiber so exposed. Check the pictures and let me know what you think.

My Nitro Duck looks like it has a plastic ring around the top.

Looks like it was made that way to fit the wider regulator body. The bigger question is why in the world would you replace an awesome Nitro Duck adjustable reg with a fixed output one?

The reg on mine doesn't cover that part, I think it's just missing something because your old adjustable one didn't need the piece since it was large enough to cover the bare part of the tank anyway.

If someone did cut it they did a great job of refinishing the shoulder and O ring grooves. Also it sure looks like it has the full length of threading in there.

I'm willing to bet that this is the way it came from the factory.

This is why I'm replacing the reg:

When the person shipped the package to me, they neglected to pad the tank enough, so that it didn't move. Lo and behold, I had an "ASA surprise" hanging out the side when I got it. UPS is way too far from my house to drive to and claim damage. Plus, I'll probably get around to massaging the lip back into place with a vise-grips someday, for now, I love this Ambush reg.

Thank you for the replies. I removed the reg to re-hydro this puppy, so it looks like I'm ok.
