Tank Reg lube?

What is acceptable to use as lube in a tank reg? I'm halfway through rebuilding a Centerflag 420SV at the moment, and don't know what's the right stuff. Is Dow 33 alright?

Edit-goddamn spell check...

Yes, that's what I use in my centerflag 420.

When I tourney teched for AA, we used a silicone based lube (Chemplex, made for copier rollers) or regular air tool oil on the piston. Dow slowed the the piston down somewhat at times, so we did not recommend using any type of grease on regulator internals.

Isn't air tool oil petroleum based? I thought petroleum lube has the potential to detonate on you.

My understanding is that there's a difference. In the reg parts, it's ok, in the tank itself, that's bad. But then again, I've got a weird reg, so I dunno.

on the LP side of the reg, there is no danger of explosion.

I'm pretty sure I was told to use a light coating of Dow 33 when I called centerflag to order a rebuild kit years ago. I haven't had any problems using it. I suppose recharge may be faster with a lighter oil, but then wouldn't you need to lube it more often? I also don't know how different AA and CF regs are internally.

isnt dow 33 just an industry standard silicone based lube designed for use in regulators and other parts with dynamic oring seals and also metal to metal contact? I've always seen it marked either regulator lube or valve lube when looking for large containers of it (like 5 gallon buckets).
