ATS Cocking knob? (Now Pump ATS?)

Has anyone ever considered adding a slot to the bolt tube and reciever, and tapping the bolt for a cocking knob?

It would look pretty cool rocking away in F/A, either on the top or the side of the gun. Functionally speaking, it would let you manually manipulate the bolt if you have a stall or misfire.

i think the added drag would be problematic; once my timing collar screw was grinding on the sleeve, just that was enough to stop the gun from working.

besides that probably would not be very good for the pneumatics, because you would be pulling against the piston, which could bend the cocking rod.

sorry to rain on your parade

Nooo, don't say that. I want a cocking knob too. Someone made a pump out of an ATS that worked on full auto. I figure modding the pump handle to a cocking knob would be a near possibility.

A pump ATS...that should go into the "future projects" list for sure.

Hey Gumby...ever thought about making a factory mag fed pump model?

Well, I know about that one...but I mean have you considered actually releasing it as an official model? If it were standalone you could just leave the LP system out of the picture altogether. Just the valve and bolt assembly, with the chain drive system.

i suspect you will all hate me for this, but;
the reason the pump works is because your not using the pneumatics, in essence an ats is a autococking nelson valve, so devolution should not be a problem.

although a pump ats would be very cool, i wouldn't hold your breath guys, i imagine to make the pump you would have to modifies the mold for the receiver, which considering the volume of ats sales, is probably not worth it.

if im honest i don't really understand why the drag would be a problem, it seams like as long as the hammer has the kinetic energy to hit the 3 way valve the system should work.

Time + Money + collaboration with several smart people = successful project

I would love to tackle this project but I got several things going on at the moment.

emphasis on the time and money.

how did you do that anyway, gumby?
machined a slot in the top of the sleeve and gun, then flip the bolt.
then just block off the 3 way valve?

I think you still need to keep the piston assembly intact and attached to the bolt, in order to actuate and guide the cog pull. In my head, I think all you need to do is slot the receiver and drill an extra hole in the top of the bolt, and then finagle something to retain and guide the pump arm.

As for the friction from adding a cocking knob...I'm pretty sure as long as you made the slot in the receiver big enough, you would have minimal friction. It wouldn't impact the first part of the firing cycle, where the hammer first hits the valve.
