bolt length?

so on my pre2k cocker, with the cocking rod in the cocked position, and the backblock all the way back... the bolt still doesn't entirely clear the feed hole.

I'm finding that to get the bolt to clear the entire feed hole i would have to pump it past where the hammer engage the sear. Is this the "right way"? or should I cut down the stock bolt a bit?

There's enough of the bolt to cut a bit off the front (resanding and smoothing out after), so that the bolt is still long enough to be in the "closed bolt" position with the backblock against the body.

has anyone tried this?

Sounds like you need to shorten up your cocking rod a bit. See here for a great article on how to do this properly.

thanks for the link.

it seems my cocking rod is too short. so far i've unscrewed it a bit, and now in the cocked position the bolt clears the feed hole. im just scared that the cocking rod would become lose during a game and fall out. probally just gonna put some teflon take on the threads to keep it secure or maybe loc-tite

some rods (like Shocktech's) have a handy set screw on the rear knob to prevent loosening.
