Yup, my top tube is 10" without the feed tube and my barrel is 5"

No word on the Redux extended barrel, but I'm hopeful. It'd be nice to have that before the swap as well.

So is 5" the length of a stock box gun barrel or is yours longer?

I think a stock Carter Boxgun has a 4.5" barrel, but I'm not 100%. Mine is a CIP so its not necessarily the same.

If I remember my history correctly, they are both copies of Dave Loo's original Desert Duck. The Box Gun was made by Earon Carter, the CIP Super Stock by Check-it Products. I believe the fit/finish on the Carter guns are supposed to be better than the CIP, and a few of the parts (such as the slider) are supposed to be nicer as well. I have no idea really, I have only handled a Carter version. The Carter Box Guns are hand made, not sure on the CIP. I would think if CIP was a larger company than CM they would have more automation, but I could be entirely wrong on that. Not sure on numbers made, I seem to recall having heard that several hundred CIPs were produced (that might be entirely wrong). I am not sure on the numbers of the Carters.

Here's the time line once again:

Top to bottom:
1. Derrick Obatake's modified Nel-Spot circa 84/85. Mods include a Colt Gold Cup rail, Ted Yoshimura (Cal Ord.) pump handle, and a barrel extention.
2. First "Mini/Shorty Duck" with the original "Counter Weight" lower pump handle and Slam Changer.
3. One of the first 3 Stock Ducks. Made by Dave Loo our team for the original Sat Cong Village stock gun league. Sonny Lopez, Earon Carter, Jessica Sparks, and other such people played in this league against us.
4. Dave Loo's personal Duck that he made for himself. Before his passing he played with it on open class fields with dignity and honor.
5. First Box Gun. Derrick built this for himself with a little machining help from Earon. Glen from CIP used this very pistol to take measurements for his version (CIP Super Stocker).

Shiba, you need to turn those 5 points into a novel. I will buy it.

Nah. Peeps are probably tired of me spouting the same ol stuff. But eveytime this kinda question pops up I feel indebted to guys like: Derrick Obatake, Dave Loo, Uncle Earon, Glen from CIP, etc. to keep their history/story alive.

BTW: Derrick was playing with one of the other first 3 Stock Ducks for awhile, but he wanted to rock-n-cock in a vertical manner, not the slightly diagonal way the Stock Ducks do. That's when he began working on his Box Gun.

If I recall correctly, the barrel was mine and so were some of the small parts (screws, guts, etc.). The lower Derrick must have gotten from Dave, and the idea for the top and handle were Derrick's own style/idea. The original gun was annodized ti grey, but Derrick had it redone after a number of years.
