Sterlings are smoother. But if you just can't wait, I would try getting a used one. Saves you a bit of money and wait time. But if you can find somebody at your field with one test it out. You will be amazed. I do prefer a slider trigger over that 1.5 that you see a lot. But I love my single finger more then the sliders though. Just my opinion. Plus Carters are just sexy.

So to me.It sounds like the carters for looks. And Sterling's<what I shoot> are smoother shooters. I'm more function over looks type myself.

Carters are pretty damn functional too though, I've only briefly touched a sterling, but I think you'd have to have both side by side to tell which is smoother.

Carters have looks AND function, Sterlings just have function

Eh, I've owned a few sterlings that got a little too close to the mill. The problem is stems from the past of little or no easy way of replacement parts. Now there's a U.S source again and that won't be a problem. I had a vert feed stockclass sterling<lada> that was milled like crazy. And I have another <lada> r/f that has been milled. Sterlings have a lot of workable area to be toyed with. Just finding someone that wants/inclined to toy with it some. As for the insides there's not much you can do beside get a spring kit and a Sheridan dyna valved<shaved> for it. I have some of the older valves and they work awesome with 12grams. Might have to get someone to copy them for people who them.It works better then the new large holes models. Well, looks like I either have to find one of the guys here that has a carter and let me shoot it or call up and have a vert feed sent to me and mill a s/c made for it.
