Fall Castle 2009 - Recap thread

Hey there, Hi there...

Bailed out early and but managed to get in on the last round of single malt tastings and now, appropriately lubricated, I am also among the first to hit the keyboard for reportage purposes.

First off, the news everyone wants to know... MCB and crew got CREAMED and in record time to boot!

That said, despite it's epic brevity, the game was intense and very well played by all. One of the most enjoyable Castles in recent memory, in fact.

The heroic defenders were as the tiny but defiant legends of the Old Alamo set against the organized and massive strength of the entire Mexican army. With 60 defenders against 300+ attackers, the conclusion was never in doubt.

It was a good day to "die".

High praise to the men and women in Hawaiian that traveled so far to stand shoulder to distant shoulder with their CC brethren for a brief and paint spattered moment in the cloud obscured Sun.

We have an excellent crew of people and this website is populated by some of the finest people in this sport.

My deepest gratitude also to the Passholder Squad, aka the Inner Circle, who keep and maintain our glorious bunkhouse. Stocking it with food, repairing wear and tear , running the machines of inebriation and cleaning the wreckage away when the crowds have gone, our hardcore OG CC crew is the best of the best.

Rolling in today as I did in the morning and then departing after the game was over this evening, I really had a chance to experience life as a guest of the EMR CC Passholder crew. Thank you very much guys. You know who you are. And then there is that guy who's name is at the top of the page.

All hail Carter. I owe you money for paint.

And one final hurrah to those long haul travelers who made the journey. Some folks will pay $1000 to watch a boxing match which is over in 30 seconds. You guys do what you do and we're all glad you do.

Thanks to all who rocked the Castle. You guys are 'ballers.

PS: (Oh Canada... you guys rule.)

PPS: (Post pics!)

PPPS: Murph is banned from the porch until further notice.

I hope to go someday. Every paintballer should visit the holy land at least once in their lives.

Great time as always guys, you know the first three times back to the dead box I counted and came up with 33, 47 and 55 respectively. That creates a bit of a predicament you see because that means we had maybe 5-10 guys out there VS about 200+ of the attackers. As drum said, we just didn't have it enough but most of us still gave it our all! My hats off to you Oh, Brave Hawaiian's!

Breakfast as usual was excellent for curing hangovers, as was food all around and a special thanks to Mayvik for the steaks he so graciously brought but didn't get a chance to eat before he headed out - they were FANTASTIC!

Next time I head up I will need to buy a cheap Craigslist digital camera to snap battle photos so we have some more pictures to tell the heroic stories of the CC crew.

Once more thank you to everyone for a great time and count yourselves all as lucky that the rec center didn't collapse under the weight of almost 400 people

Till next time!

I came in from Pittsburgh with 3 others from Band of Brothers, and had a blast seeing some old faces again and putting names to faces for the rest of you. Wore my Hawaiian shirt over the team jersey to represent.

We did indeed get creamed that first game as defenders. I was one of the few out on the airfield that got run over by 250+ attackers. Things went predictably downhill in a hurry after that, though it was a blast.

I had some paint issues the first game with the .685 on my Pyre. Before the game, I thought the paint fit it nicely, but I guess I used too small a sample size when picking the barrel. I was puking 1 in 5 in my barrel that game, and the other 4 were hooking random directions. I was lucky that I hit anybody at all for the issues I was having.

After the first game, I took a better look at the paint. A lot looked like golf balls for all their dimples and flat spots. Size was pretty inconsistent, too. For every ball that was easy to blow through the barrel, one would be very difficult to blow through and one would fall right out. I ended up deciding to try to overbore it and play the second game, so I swapped to the .690 brass (which most balls fell straight through).

I guess I took too much time getting to the field, as I missed the defender cutoff. Ended up attacking; saw Carter out there, too. The defenders definitely held out longer with a few extra numbers, though the attackers ended up taking this one, too, in an hour and a half or so. Deciding to play the second game was the weekend's redemption, because I had zero paint issues and was putting ball on ball all game.

It was a shame about the paint quality, but I was very glad to be able to enjoy playing as much as meeting up with you guys. Hopefully next year my group will be a little better represented, and we'll join you for the Saturday night festivities. This year I ended up deciding to make the drive home rather than sleep alone in a cold and empty bunkhouse.

showed up, put together a smoker with Carter's help, burnt a hole in the porch, got royally hammered, served and ate brisket, forgot about the pork shoulder and went to bed. woke up four times, said srew it, slept in the truck. woke up with the worst flu of my life and decided to pack it in. The way I'd been going I was going to get hurt if I played. If I stayed there and kept boozing I was going to get hurt or alcohol poisoning. next improvement weekend lemme know and I'll chip in on a new decking board, that was absolutely my fault. I'm just glad that the smoker I got you guys works so well. But in the future, I won't do pork shoulders, they take too damn long. I also have no intention of drinking like I did while cooking ever again. Really sorry I couldn't stick around and play (also quite pissed, I waited since april.) but it was good seeing you guys again.
