pretty impressed with comp air on phantom and 12gr efficiency

my original goal was to tune for the most efficient i could get my phantom. got the lapco #6 power tube with white lapco cup seal. i also bought an extra hammer and ground some grooves in it to get it down to 35 grams or 1.2ozs. i only had a postal scale that went to 1/10th so that was as good as it was gonna get. got the blue main spring in and the stock valve. dont have my new chronograph yet to set the speed.

i decided that since i couldnt go much further i would throw on my ninja 13 ci tank. talk about consistant. daddy really likes the little tank mounted on an on/off and ran straight into the vertical asa. i could tell it was shooting hot so i backed out the TPC some and it still seems like it has plenty of speed in it. when i get my chronograph i will test is better but this thing seems so consistant that i can shoot limbs the size of my finger on a tree in my back yard from about 10 yrds. using the stock 12" barrel and decent APX fyre and beast paint and some Elixir but those are huge and make for a hard pump stroke on some shots. will get some actual consistancy numbers in a few days.

Phantoms are amazingly consistent markers when you have a good paint match. There's a reason they're the most popular pump guns out there these days.

i have had this phantom for several years. played pretty heavy in my teens when i lived back home. we had woods in our back yard and we would play with the neighbors and friends. just got it back out last year after it sat for probably 10 years. started playing again and found a great field that is mostly pump players. i had to make the change to compressed air after finally getting into snipers. when i was growing up i was always afraid of the cocker based semis because of all the pnuematics on the front and that fact that i like to tinker. i was worried i would get things all out of wack and it wouldnt shoot right from then on. well after seeing most of the people at the field shooting snipers i decided the hell with it and got a couple. spent most of my recent time and money tinkering with them to get them consistant, efficient and light, not knowing that my simple little phantom sitting in the closet was just a compressed tank away from possibly getting more use. well my new shooting chrony just showed up today so now it is time to start tuning.

did a little test with it on 12 gr without changing the velocity. was pretty close to the same speed as compressed air. put the bucket changer in the vertical asa and was getting low to mid 260s after getting mid 270s on compressed air. got 30-35 shots on the 12 gram before it started to drop around the mid 230s. started to vent around 37-38 shots. will have to test the lightened hammer on the drop out changer. will then look at testing valve springs to see which one gives the best efficiency or how many shims in the valve chamber.

THE-SHOOTIST Anyone chubbin' like me for this?
mailmanmike Since Monday! That's more than 4 hours though, so according to those cialis ads I should see my doctor.
tlane77 I think for a non-chemical chubby it's 6 hours before its time to see a doctor. So you should be good for another couple hours.
splattttttt I wasn't goin to google "chubbin" because I assumed it had to do with fat. The lard type, not the fun stuff. But what ever feelings Jeff's experiencing, then they must be of the fun like stuff...

well just tested my lighted hammer, lapco #6 power tube, blue main spring, stock valve spring and 3 - #10 flat washers in the valve chamber with a 12 gr in the vertical bucket changer. let me tell you i am on to something here. i did some polishing where the hammer and bolt come together because the two parts were sticking, so now they spin smooth around each other. i used compress air to get the marker up to speed mid 270's. i had the 8" freak bored CCI barrel with .684 insert shooting beast paint through my bathroom window at 70* over my shooting chrony chronograph. on a good note the pump strock on this is getting super smooth. also broke in to my quality leland 12 grams for this test.

shot count
1 - 250
2 - 244
3 - 233 turned the velocity a quarter turn up for the next shot
4 - 250
5 - 255
6 - 256 turned velocity up another quarter turn
7 - 252
8 - 250
9 - 257
between shots i just shot air to save on paint
16 - 263
17 - 260
25 - 267
26 - 265
31 - 272
32 - 250
36 - 263
37 - 264
42 gave me an error cause i missed shooting over both sensors
43 - 255
44 - 247
45 - 233
46 - 211
47 - 187
empty on shot 50

not too bad with the vertical asa and i was shooting about 10 secs in between shots unless i was writing down results. will probably have to make a second thread with 12 gram efficiency results since this thread is about HPA. will also have to show the modified lightened hammer with pics of the rest of the internals.

So that 43 usable shot. You wasted 7 dry firing, which would have equaled to an extra 10, maybe 12, giving you a final tally of 48 total.
Assuming you waited intervals of 5 seconds between each shot to recock, and reset the crhony, the test was a success. Though 48 shots is nothing out of the ordinary IMO.
