Flaking on bolt

So if the bolt flakes, is it a goner? Just took mine apart to clean( bought used n first time used) and had issues. Stripped it and found all internal parts flaking n chipped.

Some would say just polish it, I'd replace it. That's the nickel anti-rust coating flaking off.

Happend to a few of my fluted hammers. Hawaii makes it rust faster and it corroded the inside of the bolt as well. I wonder if getting the dry lubricant coating on it will save if after buffing?

Yea I just replaced my bolt for the same reason, only to find out my hammer was doing the same when I took it apart to put the new bolt in! Time to call Mike again!

You can continue to use the hammer, provided you polish it regularly and keep it lightly oiled.

Consider as well buffing it to a mirror shine and sending it to be cera-koted.

It seems wasteful to just throw it out.
I agree, it should remain fine with oil and being cleaned regularly.
