You currently have the spring on the guide rod, which should work as well but it makes disassembly/reassembly a bit of a pain (since there's nothing holding the guide rod in). The spring with the undercocking kit goes on the other rod, and there's a small washer that holds it in place so it won't fly off.

Is the spring you have in there too short? or is that just the angle of the pic (too short meaning at rest it isn't applying any tension to the pump arm)

No, its actually a spring off my disassembled spyder vs1 and the regular return spring that is suppose to be with the UC kit was not there when I purchased the gun, so my only option was to cut the spring from my vs1 through trial and error to get it to kinda act like a return spring. But if everything goes to hell and it doesn't work I'll purchase the legit return spring from Mike.

My ghetto invention, didn't quite work out as I wanted to. Still kinda working as a return spring, it doesn't fully push the handle back into its original position. Looks like I'm gonna have to get a real return spring from Mike at CCI.

It's a neat idea though, I was considering putting a spring on the pump guide rod in addition to the arm. I had to go back to the medium main spring to get my Phantom back to 275fps down from 350wtfps in the heat, and the pump doesn't snap back as well as it did.

Mike sells 2 different springs for the pump rod, a full and a 3/4 stiffness. You may want to order both, and some spare parts (nylon washers, compression fitting seals, TPC set screws, etc) since parts are dirt cheap, and it's better to have spares then wait for a replacement part.

Thanks for the info. I don't like the idea of having to push it back manually.. more work/its not smooth pushing it back manually.

AKA Fan
Paintballgateway.com has a good amount of phantom parts. I know I got my undercocking kit and spring from them.

Here's my phantom . Completely agree with what you said, but instead of basically 2 pumps (back and forth), I prefer to only pump once.
