ASP detent Mod with freak Barrel

Hi Everyone,
I just ordered a DW freak barrel for a phantom I'm putting together. I then learned of the asp breech and placed another order. I just recieved the barrel and the Insert sticks out about 1/4". I call the company I purchased the barrel from, they said this is correct, so you don't use detent rings. Is this going to be a problem with the ASP breech? Is anyone using this set up? thanks,
Tim

No it wont be a problem. yes lots of people use this set up.

The ASP detents will prevent double feeds and the inserts will prevent roll outs as well as improve the marker's performance.

Enjoy!

I really don't have enough money now for a kit, What size in this combo do you find yourself using most if you where to walk onto random fields and use there cheap paint?

The usual range of paint I find in SoCal is 0.679 to 0.684

I think 0.684 is the most popular sold insert and your safest bet if you can only afford one.

The insert sticks out because--if you've ever seen a stock Phantom barrel--the first 1/4 inch or so that goes into the body is so thin-walled that the Freak boring operation completely removes it. Your insert is where the end of the barrel would have been. It's supposed to be like that.

Did you order an asp breach? If so your phantom barrel will not fit. If you are just having a phantom breach modded then you are fine.

To clarify: the Roundhead and Blockhead breeches won't take a Phantom barrel. The modified Phantom breeches sold by ASP are a-ok and I used that exact setup for quite a while.

I was underboring with my .679 more than anything else. I second that .684 is probably a good middle bet.

Don't worry timten, you're in good shape. I just turned on the furnace in the garage so I can get to detenting bodies this afternoon (including yours).
