I believe mine stays consistent down to about 600psi if that helps. I dont think its possible to adjust the velocity ith the reg though.

*sigh*

J0UN1N wouldn't let me disgnose the problem, which was more likely either with his tank or the paint/ring match. He insisted instead to play with the Sniper he's been shooting for a while than to get his brand new Phantom up and running before the season ended (more or less) here.

I see no reason why adjustment through an inline reg wouldn't be possible, particularly with air.

i wasn't about to spend half the day and paint getting the thing working like i want it. that day was the most fun i'd had in a long time. (small games FTW)
anyways, i'll have it working just fine after x-mas

If your Phantom spiked, it is most likely the nylon set screw that holds your velocity adjuster in place on the bolt is just loose or stripped. Phantoms do not need regs, but if that set screw is buggered, the normally consistant gun will jump around.

No, I checked that. It was cold, and the paint was very, very bad. While we're aware that Phantoms don't NEED regulators, there's certainly no need to poo-poo the interest. Obviously, you aren't taking that stance, but I've seen many people do it.

Get better paint then, because adding a reg and still shooting crappy paint will still lead to the same problems. Why spend the money on a reg, that doesn`t add anything to the platform, when the same money could be spent on the better paint. This really isn`t poo pooing anything, but as long as Mike Cassidy has been around, and sold Phantoms, you would think he would sell regs with, and for them if they added anything preformance-wise.

$60-80 for a possible 1% gain in efficiency spread that money where it belongs in the very best paint you can buy you will have far greater rewards with the paint. You are going to have to run the reg wide open any reg that is used at the extremes of it's ranges is not going to give it's designed performance. ( there is a reason good regs have HP and LP builds to avoid this issue)

HPA will not cause a Nelson valve to spike if it was previously set for CO2 it is imposable for it to happen unless there is an issue with the gun or reg. HPA needs volume to work in a Nelson valve, you have to increase the dwell of the valve to achieve the same FPS as CO2.

pillage... when it's FPO.. it can be rather hard to get better paint especially if the field is closing and moving to a new location, and therefore don't have a whole lot of paint on hand.

You most certainly can re-spring a Phantom and add a regulator. I might go a different route than a Bob Long though. I haven't owned one in a while, but the two I owned didn't like Co2.

Not sure about the new ones though. Also, you may want to look at an adjustable regulator on an air tank and then a secondary regulator. Something like a Flatline that can go up to 1200 psi or so and then have it regulated down to 800 psi. Just a thought.
