Why would consistency be affected by the detent rings? I can see it *increasing* consistency as it has the ball in the same spot every time, but I cannot understand how it would make it less consistent... thoughts?

EDIT: It depends what terms we are using. I always understood consistency in paintball guns to be solely due to the valve/air source/regulation, ensuring that every ball gets hit with the exact same amount/pressure of air.

I was shooting DXS field paint through the stock barrel. The paint was pretty small (.683?) and the last time I played, before the rings were installed, I had had no end of problems with double feeding and rollouts.

Today the rollouts were gone, but the gun double-fed quite a bit. I checked the rings after it happened and they both were still intact, so apparently there is a limit as to how small a paintball they will actually work with.

Consistency was very poor as well, which surprised me since I was running the gun on HPA for once.
Maybe these things only work with an aftermarket barrel.
I was shooting smaller paint than that with a stock barrel (inserts but they were overbored, so there should be no difference). It is confusing, and disappointing, that it is not working well for you.

I mean if the paintball is so small the detents weren't holding it in place.

I've always considered consistency being the FPS variation. If the valve is getting the same amount of air but the ball is at different lengths down the barrel, it'll have less room to accelerate and you'll probably get spikes in velocity.

Hey Michael,
Definitely didn't mean to make it sound like you weren't getting stuff done on time. You definitely are within a reasonable window for shipping custom work from a small shop. I'm just eager to put it in action. Thanks for popping in and providing tech support.

Cool.
I'll let you know if that fixes it.
In the mean time I'm shopping for a tighter barrel.

JR - Well, I actually had the thing done and packaged, so it shouldn't have taken that long, but I found I still had to enter the feednecks into Quickbooks, etc...

I have 2 more CF bodies done as of last night - I'll be making 1 available for sale right away, and the other will go to Spaceman for the SPE raffle table.

I have the detent rings with my phantom, they seem to do the job fine. Is this mod for those who can't/don't want to use the rings?

Its an anti-double feed/ball detent set up. The rings work alright, but if you happen to get one very small ball won't do anything, where as this will prevent that rollout.
