ASP Detent Mod - Short Review

I am sure most people know of this by now, but I just wanted to toss up a small review of this product.

I had this mod done to a new center feed body I had ordered from ASP, along with a new Ego feedneck. Here is a stock photo of the mod, and another picture of the Phantom setup I was using (minus the UC kit):

I had a 0.684 insert in the marker, and paint was 0.680 or so. I wanted to test the detents so I did not bother matching the insert; next time I play I am going to really overbore to give it a good test.

I cannot speak of this affecting consistency (it should improve it, I would think, as the ball is in the same location every shot) as I was experimenting with a stabilizer and non-stock springing and settings, but it shot just as well, if not better, than usual. This is obviously anecdotal at best as I was not able to conduct an extensive consistency test.

I shot around 500 paintballs through it with no rollouts the entire day, and no double feeds either (I was swapping between a Winchester and a Revvy throughout the day). I even brought the AT up to speed (think of the Tyger FPS video) to test for double feeding, and it presented no problems whatsoever.

I am going to have to recommend this mod to all Phantom owners, regardless of whether or not you have a barrel kit. The ability to use a non-bored barrel or not having to worry about rollouts when you cannot closely match inconsistent paint (I know you are supposed to shoot the good stuff, but you don't always have access) is well worth it. I am going to send in my SC body soon to have it done.

I will likely complete a more comprehensive and organized review once I put more paint through it in factory stock configuration, but I am not sure how far into detail I can really go. I will likely do a accuracy/consistency/paint test as well, if anything can actually be taken from the results.

'Bout time, slacker. I'm eager to get my CCI body with 2 forms of ASP love, hopefully at SPE. Thanks for typing this up for us.

How long did delivery take for your order?

I'm thinking about a RH Offset stock class breech with this detent mod.

It honestly took a while, mainly because he had to order in an OC body and wait for the Ego feedneck I ordered to arrive. I was also talking him about it for a time before hand and making additions to my order. It took me nearly two months from first making contact to the package arriving, once you factored in the time from ASP to Canada, but I think the turnaround time for the actual item is only a few days. Also, I believe mine was the first OC body this was done to, so he likely had to fine tune the process a bit.

OK, so where would one find the info on where to contact ASP and get one of these?

My turnaround for just the detent mod is around 4 days (that's what I've been shooting for, at any rate). I'll be offering centerfeed Ego-necked detented CCI bodies as a 'ready to run' product soon (will certainly have some at SPE).
