A CCM doesn't really need a backup from a reliability standpoint. And once you're good enough you'll find that picking up a semi doesn't necessarily give you any sort of edge. At least that's what I've found.

I keep my custom Automag on hand (as many on my team have pointed out, it wouldn't be me if I got rid of it), but I rarely ever take it to the field, much less use it.

If one of my CCM's goes down (only one that has is my mech S5, just a 3way o-ring, silly pneus) I bust out another CCM from the bag. They are like tater chips, you can't have just one!

I find that CCMs are at home on any type of game you want to play with them. Be it speedball or woodsball, they are well suited for it all.
If you need to lay alot of paint, be one the the autotrigger. Since it is a pump, you can one ball like a champ.

Yes, I generally autotrigger off the break in speedball/small field matches. Especially at Jaeger's. Up the middle and shoot left to window-side. I always get there first and they never know what's going on

I haven't gone on the fields with a semi in five years. (except for one big game when I used a spyder and a mag for half a day) the s6 and my 98 sto with a ccm kit have been my two main gotos no matter what I play
