Why is my S5 a gas hog?

Is it just mine or is the S5 typically known as a gas hog?

I haven't called CCM to figure any of this out yet, decided to post on MCB first. I also haven't actually counted how many shots I get with my tanks but I go through 2 13/3000 tanks with what seems to be about 200 balls. I know I should get a proper estimate first but I wanted to see if the S5 is actually a gas hog before putting in the work.

Now for the numbers: I'm using 13/3000 tanks with 800psi output. Regulator is set at 300psi and velocity is around 280-285.

It has all new internals except for the main spring, IVG, and hammer. The regulator internals are originals. There's no leaks at all and o-rings are all good.

Maybe I should get new regulator internals? Or maybe its just that I'm using small tanks?

Any respectful response would be much appreciated! Help a brother out!

Nope you dont need to buy anything really, although having extra parts is always great
The series 5 is the same as the 6 and isnt really a hog on air but its not efficient either.
If you just set the reg to 300 and arnt happy with the shot count read into sweet spotting the reg
your efficiency will increase slightly. If you still are not happy get either a 68/4500 or 45/4500.
Not only do they hold more air but they are way easier to shoulder in my opinion

Make sure your paint to barrel match is good. Sweet spot the reg. Make sure your Auto Trigger timing is good.

A shorter control bore (up to about 5 inches) will be slightly less efficient.

Actually count your shots and make sure your tank is cool when you do so - you numbers are anecdotal and not accurate - you may be surprised.

Awesome. Thanks for all the info.

The paint to barrel match and a/t timing are both good. I'll have to try to sweet spot the reg.

I'm gonna fill up my two tanks and count out all the shots I can get and also test it on my T2 to see the difference if any.

Let's say all were equal - the T2 will be about 40 to 50% more efficient than your S5. It is sprung and hammered differently. They are just different markers - so you are comparing apples to oranges.

Try your series 5. Go through the sweet spotting process - and see if your efficiency improves.

If you have access to another S5 or S6 or J2L - test it against that - and see where yours rates.

mailmanmike Since Monday! That's more than 4 hours though, so according to those cialis ads I should see my doctor.
tlane77 I think for a non-chemical chubby it's 6 hours before its time to see a doctor. So you should be good for another couple hours.
splattttttt I wasn't goin to google "chubbin" because I assumed it had to do with fat. The lard type, not the fun stuff. But what ever feelings Jeff's experiencing, then they must be of the fun like stuff...

Leak free! I haven't had the chance to fill up my air tanks which is why I haven't posted shot count results, hopefully tomorrow I'll have air and be on the field too.

Thanks for showing interest in my situation though!

ccms are not the most efficient out there, but they what they sacrifice in efficiency they make up for in an awesome pump stroke. i recently sent my reg into rod for some service work, and he set it to 350. i would say perhaps increase your reg pressure just a tad. i know at 300 my valve wasn't closing fast enough, and perhaps that's what's happening with yours.

also, by adding more pressure, you'll increase consistency.
Something I value more than efficiency.
