I bought a relatively steal of a deal on a used Burris ar332 scope. It ain't $50 but wasn't $300. Off of eBay. Got it for like $225.

Once I get my rails mounted I was going to use this on my R7

Sorry fellas life happened and I have not done this thread justice. I really want to get this topic going so keep it coming. Based on our conversations on the original thread I have changed my mind on optics once again. If I get a chance I'll post up some photos of some cool yet affordable sights. However in all honesty I don't see this thread taking off until after we have had a chance to fondle the SR1.... So hurry up Bill

I would like to see some opinons and experiences gathered into one spot as well.

Specifically, what are people finding for scopes good for FSR specific uses
-types?
-amount of magnification?
-mounted how far from your mask?
-and how high up from the barrel?

for red dots, again specifically for First strike rounds
-types?
-dot types?
-mounted how far from mask?
-and how high up from the barre?

and then finally for sights
-what type?
-how much length between them?
- and again how high up from the barrel?

I'm just not sure yet what I would like using, but if we can gather some input from people who are scope specific or really like red dots or even sight experts. Then we could do some fine tuning with multiple people testing, find which systems work better for rifle or pistol set ups; and then let everyone pick what type suits them.

I've been shooting a lot of regular paintballs just to put the gun thru its paces and sighting like a normal paintball gun

When I put iron sights on it that narrows the focus and paintballs don't always fall in that sight picture. So I am better without sights with paintballs. Plus the guys in the shop are shooting it the same way and it works very well.

I will be shooting some First Strike soon an I will probably use my cheapo red dot.

I'm starting to get nervous. what if ????

What if.......? What if its the most exciting marker to hit the market in at least 5 years for everyone who buys one from the first batch? I would call it a success on just that but i am sure it will wow many people, and shoot great to boot. I don't see how it could not be an amazingly accurate platform, looks to be one of, if not, the most solid and direct way to fire a paintball I have seen to date. Bolt action works great for real guns so it can't be worse for paintballs.

I still am undecided on optics, I will wait and do some shooting before I decide. I may go with some wide open iron sights or maybe try my hand at making my own sights, not many I am finding are open enough and i don't really want to hack up some nice iron sights.

In the end I will always be an iron sights guy but being that this rifle is being created for FS rounds I think we have to consider some type of optic. Because I owned a scope mounted T4 for about one week I know I won't like the scope option too much because paintballs arch and drop quickly and are very difficult view through a scope. Therefore I am inclined to follow Deuce's suggestion of going with a reflex. But now the journey begins to find a reflex sight with some type of built in range finder. Thus far I have found a few that I am inclined to take the plunge on but still not committed which way to go.

It really too bad this one is a Nerf toy sight because I really dig this reticle, it's a dot with a range finder and IMO would look great on camera.

There's an Iphone app a friend of mine has that does exactly what you're talking about.

I actually plan on buying an old used Iphone just for my SR-1. I figure the way apple nerds go through Iphones I'll be able to get one cheap.

I think I'm the same way, but if there is a good optic for this use I'd like to know of it. I don't mind trying out one scope or red dot, but I don't want to have to buyNsell 15 of them.

If we could just gather everyone single input from everyone that would sure help cut out potential wastes of money.
