Had anyone found a suitable android app that is comparable to the options for the iPhone?

I have no idea amigo but what I just learned something cool about the Teodolite app. I went into settings and found that after using the built in crosshairs to zero the user can turn off the app crosshairs so the only one visible would be the scope crosshairs. Simple, yes but still a cool feature. Now if I could get the creator to allow the app to detect the gyroscope feature of the iPhone and flip the app upside down I could actually bring the phone to the left side rather than being limited to the right side.

OK I decided to do a little more searching and tried the search terms Theodolite and android and came up with GeoCam. They have a free app that I am testing right now. Of course there is the ad banner but that is removed along with video recording in the pro version for $2.80.

Snapped a quick picture this morning to see what is displayed. You can turn off individual items on the display if you wish to clear up the clutter. I do not really like the floating box and cross hairs on this one. The box is centered and green when the pitch and roll are zeroed out. One of the cool features of this app is the ability to add geocaching data to the phone as well as viewing the area in google maps. I am looking forward to playing with this feature more to check out possible uses. This app also lets you create a kmz file for Google Earth that you can upload. This feature will be useful for photos I take while at work.

I need to fabricate a mounting plate for this and attach it to my scope which will be hacksaw and Dremel milling for the prototype (Oh how I miss my machine shop access from my last job)

This app does have the same limitation of not rotating when the phone is turned the other direction but nothing that cannot be dealt with. At least my camera is a bit closer to the center of the phone (Casio Commando)

More to come as I am able to play with this over the next few weeks.

Its also supposed to be capable of range finding, have you been able to test that one?

The range finding works by triangulation. Not the best option when you are stationary. But could be useful when you scoping ou the field prior to game time. I am going to try it some this week around the farm and see what it comes up with compared to the 100 yard tape

I like it, can you go into the settings and change the crosshairs option? Theodolite has that same exact set too.
