| One in the Pipe! | SR-1 iSniper Concept Realized "From concept to reality, a dream realized" Thats exactly what I thought as I put the finishing touches on this weekends project. What started as a result of the SR-1 Optics discussion has morphed into quite possibly the most state of the art concept to date. My concept was simple, aquire an nice 4x32 fiber optic/scope combo. Locate some type of iPhone adaptor, find the perfect app to bring it all together and vio'la you have the worlds first iSniper equipped SR-1. Simple yet technologically elegant in design. ![]() For this project I used the Theodolite App available at the iTunes store. What makes this a remarkable app for this project is its ability to not only view but zoom and record the action. Its a fantastic meld of simplicity with the best of todays technology. When putting this together I had to account for the 3.5in eye relief which was as simple as cutting down some PVC for a nice snug fit. To zero the unit all the user need do is align the app cross hairs with the scopes, cut your PVC fitting to match you eye relief between the scope and the 42 mm Meopix iPhone telescope adaptor available at Cabelas for around $60.00. ![]() Un-zoomed image has a cool scope like effect while remaining focused. What I like about the un-zoomed view is that the azimuth, and other readings really stand out in the black as opposed to filling the screen. ![]() Zoomed in image, notice when zoomed the screen fills and focuses quite nicely. Please disregard the pumpkins, I just wanted to give you all a full view so you could see what it looked like it's a tight unit. ![]() Update: As luck would have it I have been unable to get some much needed in app video footage as promised earlier in the week. So until I can get some play time in I thought I would share what I did to create the iSniper adaptor for the SR-1. First you will need the following items: iPhone Theodolite app available in the app store for $3.99 Optics of your choice 42 mm Meopix spotting scope adaptor $60.00 PVC tubing with an inner diameter close the your scopes outer diameter. Black electrical tape Start by cutting the PVC to fit your eye relief distance being careful not to cut it too short and then sand the inner diameter for a snug fit. Now that I have the PVC adapter sized I would love to have it replicated in aluminum but I don't have the equipment so PVC it is. Once sized, neatly wrap the electrical tape around the PVC adaptor to give it a finished look. Press fit the PVC adaptor into the Meopix iPhone adaptor and then press fit the adaptor onto the scope being careful to align the cross hairs which should serve as a zero. Next inset the iPhone, launch the app and realign the cross hairs to match. ![]() ![]() ![]() ]Here is some Youtube footage of the app in action tonight in my backyard. I think you will like the water mark. Notice how the zoom reading changes as I zoom in and out. Note I haven't zeroed the app to the scope but you get the picture. This is going to make for some really cool footage. UPDATE: New Video footage, I decided to take a shot prior to zeroing the scope but you get the picture or video rather. I think the concept is sound and I can move forward with it. I will load some zero'ed footage tomorrow. http://youtu.be/7or5lnGpcEc New in-app footage: http://youtu.be/aFqc_i8CtWQ Distance 56ft FPS 268 Elevation: 05 degrees Paint: RP Premium from 2009! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAtNcfFdmvU Distance 124.3 ft FPS 268 First shot elevation: 10 degrees Elevation: 05 degrees Paint: RP Premium yes it's from 2009! Neat! Just don't take a shot to the screen. Although If you're hand loading first strikes, you're probably far enough back that that wont happen.

| One in the Pipe! | Thank you, If my memory is correct the initial concept of melding an iPhone with the SR-1 was Bills. I just was able to put it all together in a cost effect way that would make it affordable and effective for this appication. I am super excited about the possibilities. |
