Reg tester Prototype.

I have been thinking for some time about how to create or modify existing technology within the industry to bring CCM users a Reg tester that was safe, affordable, and worked.

I may have hit on that with this prototype.

I have found a source for quality remote on/offs and I asked them to send me a few samples. I then started working on making the on/off into a reg tester.

What I wanted was something easy to use, safe to use, tested the output pressure as well as recharge of the regulator being tested.

After some time, measuring, tinkering, swearing, drinking, and thinking - I came up with this:

I know - it looks like a regular on/off with a quick disconnect - BUT WAIT - there is more!

There are four pieces to this on/off - and I modified or replaced every part in order to turn it into a reg tester.

1) Located and drilled relief hole so that the pressure can be relieved after testing - as well as creating a way to check recharge (simply bleed a little pressure off - and then move turn the knob tight again to see how fast your reg recharges).

2) Modified the Steel piston to allow for a greater travel (accommodating modification #1).

3) Modified the on/off knob to not only allow for the reduced material removed from the piston - but also to allow for steel to steel contact (allowing for reduced wear - as the On/off knob was aluminum).

4) Polished the inside of the on/off to remove any burr's and allow for a smooth transition of the on/off piston.

5) Replaced the o-ring to allow for a smoother and more consistent travel over the pressure relief hole.

The tester as pictures has a quick disconnect on the on/off to allow for different gauges to be quickly swapped out - but this is really not necessary. I am sourcing a 0-700 (approx) gauge right now that will be durable and accurate (the middle 1/3rd of any gauge is the most accurate - so you want a gauge that is roughly double the pressure you are trying to measure. The gauge I am looking at is +/- 2% in the middle - so an accurate reading should be garnered from this simple tester.

The price point of this tester should be around 25 dollars plus shipping - but I am not sure - and mostly this will depend on the gauge that I get for it.

I posted this to see what your thoughts are.... so - post away - let me know what you think.

Let me know who to make the PayPal out to.

I'm in for one. Like the 700 gauge, but would also like to be able to add a bigger one also.

I am not handy and it sounds like you've done a lot to it, so you can add me to the list. Thank you for thinking about this.

Okay - I have sourced a guage for us.

Dial Size: 1.5 inches
Range 0 to 600 psi
Connection Size 1/8" NPT, (Location - off center - back)
Smallest Graduation: 20 PSI
Accuracy: +/-3%, -2%, -3%
Case Material: Steel
Case Color Black
Socket Material Brass
Tube Material Bronze
Lens Material Glass
Operating Temp. Range (F) -40 Degrees to 120 Degrees
Manufacturers Warranty Length 1 Year

This will be perfect for low pressure tanks - and all regs out there.

This means you are +/- 2% when dialing in any reg in the CCM line!

I think this is a good choice.

Would you be willing to sell without the gauge all together??? I have a 2in glycerin gauge but LOVE the bleed off idea.

I'd be interested in a no gauge option as well.
