S5 shooting hot

Hello all, I just bought an s5, used, and I cant get to shoot under 300. My IVG is backed out all the way, my reg can't be set any lower or the valve wont reset after the hammer strikes, the reg was just serviced and my paint is slightly underbored, I can blow it through with my mouth. I'm getting a consistent 305 +- 3 fps on a crappy chrono. Should I be looking at springs?

I would start with springs. If the hammer is setting on the valve allowing it to open while at rest you have a spring balance issue. Are you shooting pump or mech S5? What guts/springs are in it now?

If stock, then the springs should be matched. Perhaps you need to test the HP reg and make sure its not creeping. Test and release pressure 10 times to make sure its seating.
I never used my CCM (besides the slotted hammer in my 6.5) internals so not sure on how they act. I do know their hammer spring is the softest/shortest spring out there I bought a few for a project years ago.

I had pretty consistent results through a whole 50 rnd hopper, I guess I can look into a madman kit? The valve spring is definitely soft though, its fully depressed when uncocked

I would check the hammer spring, see if it hasnt been replaced. I have a few springs floating around I scrounge up if you need one. Make sure someone didnt put a red maddman spring in there

This is unusual if the springs are still stock...they may not be.

If it's NOT the springs...my next guess is the reg was not rebuilt properly or perhaps an oring is not sealing properly due to a flaw. I'd do the following:

1. Check the HPR output pressure--if possible using a reg tester
2. Watch TF's regulator video and make sure everything checks out inside the HPR
3. Call Mel and chat with Rod if you're still having any issues

Good news is there is no problem with a CCM marker that CCM can't make right.

Also, you should sell that S5 and buy mine in the BST forums. When that gun shoots, a chorus of angels sighs.

Just kidding.

Sort of...

Pull the internals, run the reg through a tester, check the springs, clean the gunk, sweet spot.
Bam.
CCM Springs > Madman springs.
