CCM Valve-pin Question

I purchased a CCM Series 5 on eBay. Of course when it arrived I broke it all the way down to inspect, clean, lube and replace the O-rings and any worn or damaged parts.

This is my third Series 5, so I was surprised to see the valve is different. While they all have the blue aluminum valve bodies, and red valve retention nuts, this one has one-piece a plastic (Delrin?) valve-pin.

I also noticed there are some other differences; the valve body in countersunk where the valve-pin seals against it, the valve spring is stiffer (maybe since the valve-pin is lighter?) and the hammer spring is also stiffer, though it may not be the stock spring.

Are these older valve assemblies worth replacing with a newer brass valve assembly? Are they "better"?

I look forward to your answers, thoughts and comments.

Yeap thats the old style valve. That was the valve pin that farted, CCM offered free replacements for them. If you ask Mel she might send you one.

Ya what he said.

From what I can tell there were 3 different version of the valve pin.
Delrin - Farts like crazy
Short stem - Farts a little
Long stem - current production ones.

By farting we mean hammer bounce (the technical term).

It actually caused me to fart every time I pulled the trigger.

That was a lonely year.

Thank you (Ying & jkolelka) for your useful and informative information and the pictures, J. Moe not so much... though I'm sure both you and your marker farting (maybe the same cause, though a different mechanism), encouraged you to change the valve in your older models.

With the marker cleaned ad set to 325psi, it took 1.5 turns on the IVG to get to 280 with a .006 underbore insert. And boy did it fart. I moved the pressure up to get the valve to close faster, it got a bit quieter, but still farty.

I will contact Mel tomorrow about a new valve. I replaced one of my T2 valves (I damaged the valve pin trying to get the "hat" off to change the o-ring) with the new bass valve, it works great, and sounds better. I expect I will get similar results with this marker too.

Any of you know if the SS-25 valve would fit in a trilogy? and would I be able to use the valve pin from the trilogy with the valve body from an SS-25. I have a spare floating around and am turning a trilogy that's been getting abused as a loaner into a pump.

Long time no talk TF...

Brother - I am always here. Always lurking....

Usually by the time I sign on and see a question like this - part of the awesome CCM community has not only answered it - but answered it correctly.

I always read them and chime in if needed. I am rarely needed. CCM community is awesome like this - we mod ourselves for the most part.
