Best return spring for a CCM pump kit?

I just picked up a CCM pump kit locally ($25! ) and I want a return spring for the pump.

Right now I've got a light hammer spring from a spring kit I had lying around, but obviously it's a little too heavy for pump use in actual play. Any one have a suggestion as to where to get one?

I'm going to try the local hardware store this weekend, before anyone suggests that.

I found some really cheap, really light springs in a spring variety pack at ACE. I spiraled two together - it's just enough to return the pump handle when the gun is level - if it's pointed up it won't lift the weight of the pump handle. I like it this way to keep my pump stroke really light. The package came with 5 or 6 springs, so you could just add more if you wanted a stiffer pump stroke.

I think it cost me a grand total of $1.29 and I have spares.

This is easy. #138 spring (check your local hardware store). Take off the pump handle (3 allen-head screws) and insert the spring into the cavity that the main guide rod slides along. Screw pump handle back onto mounting base. Voila! Light pump stroke, solid return force, and invisible spring .

?!?! why do you need to take off the handle? can't you just slide the pump handle off the guide rod?

Take a spring that fits it from the hardware store, and put it in a vice for about 24 hours. That should simulate breaking it in, and it will be a lot smoother.

Because to get the spring tension you want, you want the spring INSIDE the pump handle. And, IIRC, to get that spring to fit into the pump handle, you have to unscrew it from the base, insert the spring, and then put the pump handle back onto the base.

If you just unscrew the screw that holds the auto trigger arm to the rod and then unscrew the backblock off the rod, your pump handle will slide off and you can insert your spring..

I think he is trying to say he is using a spring that will not fit inside the guide rod hole on the pump plate, but will fit inside the over-bored hole in the pump handle. Makes sense to me. The holes in the CCM pump handles are WAY over bored...like 50 thou over.

Yup that's what I did. The home depot spring I got fits nicely in the overbored hole in the handle and the plate holds the spring in. If you do get this spring size, reform the end of the spring a bit so the guide rod doesn't slip inside the spring.
