Velocity dilema, 280 or 297?
I recently made an awesome sniper pump with CCM, AKA, MacDev and FBM parts. Adjusting the velocity I can set my IVG at 2 threads in with the reg set right in the middle to get a nice and clean 280 FPS with very little kick. Alternately, I can set the IVG at 5 threads in and the reg about 3/4 up and get 297. At 297 it shoots a little rougher, you can feel the hammer slam into the valve and hear the valve and spring rattle after a shot.
So I don't really mind the extra kick, but I am a little concerned that I may be causing undue wear on my marker for a few extra FPS. What do you guys think?

i say run 280. but this doesnt really make sense to me.. cause you sweetspot the reg... then adjust velocity with ivg...
you dont leave both the reg and ivg stationery. all this depends on proper paint to bore match, etc.
Have you sweet spotted the reg at two turns in of the IVG?
I have found that if I set my reg at a conservative sweet spot - and then turn in the IVG - I have to re-set the sweet spot of the reg. It can change.
Turn it two turns in - set the reg at that point - and then see where you are. Give it three turns - and see if the reg can be adjusted to give you a little more FPS.
280 fps. No one likes seeing people chrono at 297... your next shot may be like 315.
I have a 2-Liter on there. So it's more like this:
297, 297, 295, 297, 299, 296.
I think I'll turn it back down though. I don't like the slam sound it makes when it shoots.

I've run into the exact same thing. Despite common sense telling us that all paintball guns shoot the same at the same velocity, when my gun was acting like yours and I tried to turn it up, it resulted in a very weird slamming feel, excess kick, and a notably arcing trajectory. Unfortunately, my "sweet spot" was around 250 rather than 280, and as soon as I went above it whacked out on me.
I re-sweetspotted my reg. I have the pressure around 275, the IVG is in 3 turns and I am shooting 290ish. If I raised my pressure a little higher would it increase efficiency by closing the valve quicker. If I raise it it makes no increase in velocity for about a full turn. So if I run the pressure above 300 will I get better efficiency is what I am trying to say.
You may get a little and it will have a little buffer in auto trigger. I have found that CCM internals love 300 PSI regardless. So that is what I would recommend.
Honestly - 3 turns in at 290 - is damned good in my opinion. I would be tempted to just leave it - but you may find another small turn gets you a bit more efficiency.
Alright, I will play with it. I have a CCM frame and pump kit with AT, an FBM body a MacDev red valve and an AKA 2-Liter. When I find my camera I will post pictures.
