I think it looks better like this, far more sleek and flowing.

or have you configured the cutting of one billet into 2 bodies with minimal waste?

One of the main issues was matching the asa and body. The tolerance has to be really close in order to make it match. The machine time for the asa is quite considerable for such a small part.It is somewhere around 20 min with high speed machining. That means just take $30 out of your wallet and throw it in the trash can everytime you scrap one.

Machining the body in one piece negates the matching problems and not having to many of one part and not enough of the other. So when it comes off of the mill the body is ready for finishing. It takes three machines and over 40 tools to make one. Then the hand labor starts.

So,to answer your question,Yes.We are using wider stock. One body per cut.The waste material and time is minor to the gain.(the excess material is cutoff in less than 30sec.) And the product is better.

There are no extra asa's. So, don't lose or damage the one you got.

That's kind of scary! You don't have ANY extra stock to cover "emergencies".

I like the imbetted style. Its a "Why not" kind of thing. It kinda looks like there is still a seam though.

CCM never has spares!

I want one in gloss....

Yes,I haven't gotten over it yet. It's so hard for me to throw away anything. Some small parts are cheaper to scrap than repair. The labor to repair cost more than to make another one.

If it would have been programed from scratch there would still be a transition line. This redo was a real b*tch. We did fix a few small issues along with this melding of parts so,it was worth the effort.
