Everything I've currently got,
Eigenbarrel
Kaner (old-style)
LAPCO Apex
WGP 98 stock
Stiffi
...leaves the gap.

Gonna try with the O-ring in place in a couple hours.
Will let everyone know if it changes anything.

Just checked a few more and found that these leave gaps too:

Empire Trracer stock barrel
WGP trilogy stock barrel

Also found that the stock barrel from an 2k4 BKO left almost no gap. Hard to tell for sure; I can't remove my breach without taking out the eyes as well, and that's too much work for a lazy guy like myself

It's actually the threading on the body. The stock barrels fit best. You can grind a turn of threads off of a barrel, but I bought the cheapie tap from ASP and put an extra turn in the body on my two. With the barrels seated, they work great.

Ok, so I tried out my trick of using an O-ring to fill in the space.
No change. Balls in the feedneck on top of the bolt were still being launched 3-6 feet in the air.

So then I tried an experiment- I wrapped the head of the bolt in teflon tape to make it seal tighter against the upper tube, carefully slid it back into the body, loaded a ball into the back of the barrel, and placed a second ball down in the feedneck.

THAT made a difference, and continued to for another 2 shots before the tape was blown apart.

So I'm wondering- should I try using my dremel to put a forward O-ring groove into the bolt?

Ok, I'm definitely on to something with the tape.

Seeing as how the teflon tape was much too fragile, I tried applying one layer of thin Scotch transparent tape to the front of the bolt and giving that a thing coat of lube.

This completely fixed the pop-up problem. Balls sitting in the feed tube were rock-steady during firing. It seemed to make no difference whether the O-ring was in front of the barrel or not. Unfortunately, the tape seemed to be tearing up after only 20 shots or so, so a more permanent solution needs to be found.

Gave some more thought to putting a forward O-ring on the bolt and I've got serious concerns about that. The venturi ports are so large and so close to the rim that a groove of the same thickness as the other two would likely communicate with the ports and make the problem worse.

I tried applying the transparent scotch tape again and was much more careful this time. I cleaned the surface of the bolt with alcohol beforehand and made sure there were no creases in the tape or dust underneath. When I played yesterday the tape held up for as long as I used the gun, for a total of about 300 shots. Before I packed everything away I tested it again and the popup problem still seemed to be fixed.

Someone else who has seen these symptoms ought to try this and see if it yields similar results.

STO threaded. Most 'cocker feednecks from the early '00s will fit.

Early Intimidator feednecks will also fit (but not vice-versa).

I bought a trinity t-lock for mine. I can't remember what they msrp for, but I'm pretty sure they're under $20. Not the greatest feedneck on the world (can't get too tight of a clamp on my revi for example) but it works great for forcefeeds.

here is mine. cobbled together with parts from here and there. other than the pump kit and the pump handle(CCM, which i can't stand), i think i have less than $100, which is always great for a throw together gun.

did have to rebuild the Hyper2, but i will say that its been really good to me, for the days i do actually play pump.
