My gun, "Karen"

Here are some pics of my gun. I need to play a slower game, I'm getting a bit old to be carting about a pistol and doing all the running that I have been doing all this time. By shooting such a long gun with a stock It'll force me to change my tactics to those that (hopefully) won't be hurting so much for days after an outing.

I dubbed her "Karen" after my wife, the only woman I've ever truly loved and known true respect for and equality with. With any luck, this construct of aluminum, delrin, spring steel and rubber will be as constant, true and reliable as Mrs. Six has been to me. Here's hoping...

Things of note:

-The storage tank is an old out of date 9oz that I made up a long while back. In it I store all items that are needed (including tools, seals etc.) to rebuild the gun in the field. I have to admit that I have never had a single thing go wrong with any Phantom of mine - still, it's good to be prepared for that day. Also along with my gun case and items I will be able to store in that I will have minimal encumbrance to the field - my gun case and my mask bag at this point. I love simplicity, and utilitarian qualities - this gun is that. I just like the thought of being able to carry all support items for the gun - ON or IN the gun.

-I tried to order a double length custom pump for the Phantom from Mike at CCI, sadly that was an order that he couldn't arrange. So, I decided that I was going to build one from what I could muster. In essence the idea was strictly for aesthetics - I hadn't seen it done to a Phantom before and thought it might look interesting (and I think it does) The added bonus is that the extra weight of the extended pump helps to balance out the assembled package. The balance point is directly at the .45 grip frame - bonus! Alignment and securing the 2 pumps was a challenge. It had to be meticulously done in order to align them properly and ensure smooth function. The finished product was off a fraction of a millimeter - but that was enough to warrant some smoothing out and refacing the interior of the pump. At present she is just a little stiff - comfortably so. The pump stroke very much reminds me of my old SL-68, which in my mind isn't a bad thing at all. It is very comfortable to me.

- I had planned to post pictures of the gun with it's final part as I originally imagined it - an Armson Maxduty sight. I however made a typo when ordering the item, so it's running late but will be here within a week.

For my size and stature the gun is very comfortable and feels like an extension of me when I hold it. I only hope that the comfort felt equates to good accuracy in play. Here is hoping.

Anyway, thanks for the look-see, hope you enjoyed the pics.

First thoughts: Bulk Co2 sucks on SC feeds, espescially lightweight phantoms

Then: Oh sh*t....... SWEET

I am going to hazard a guess that she's a member here and may read this post of yours....

That's a very nice Phantom you have there, but in order for us to properly evaluate this very romantic comparison you've made, perhaps you should consider asking her to post some pics of herself here. Even better if side-by-side with your Phantom.

Heck, Carter's wife just posted a pic of herself in the tub with one of Carter's Blazers.
Sure, she's set the bar quite high, but perhaps that info will inspire you and your wife.

Na Drum, she isn't a member, she won't even play paintball - but she does occasionally target shoot with me (paintball and otherwise). I would have a problem photographing my wife, as she is very reticent to have her photograph taken - some folks are that way. I might be able to talk her into it though.

<shrug>

Thanks for your comments gents.

I had a girlfriend in HS who was quite lovely, but she had adopted a "Native American" approach to having her picture taken. After considerable convincing, she allowed me to sketch her for her yearbook page. It looked sorta like her. I sometimes wonder what became of her...

Anyway, I had another thought...

When guys name their boats after people that still exist, they usually put the Roman Numeral "II" after the name. Maybe you should consider naming your Phantom the "Karen II".

Cool gun. Use it ("her"?) in good health.

D.
