The culmination of a multi-year project.

So about a year ago, I decided to put together a pump. I'm not one to reject technology. But I wanted to have something sharp for special format games with the local club.

I wanted something flashy and exotic. I'm a big fan of technology, and cost isn't that big of a hurdle for what I want.

I picked up a Karnivor based sniper from a member here. It was nice. One negative is that it was minied to accept a pump kit. This was before CCM offered Karni specific kits.

Although I hadn't held one before, I decided on a CCM 86 frame. I believe that 90 degree frames are ergonomically superior because of the angle that paintball guns are held at. Actually, I admire the X,Y,Z frames for mags... But I do like to play low occasionally.

Next, I acquired transparent components for all the plastic pieces... My intentions on that will become more clear later. No pun intended.

I also snagged an MQ2 valve. And a Scenario Dreams T board to drive it.

Without further ado... Picture mania!

The frame is really the magic part. If you're familiar with the CCM 86, you know that NOTHING fits inside of the damn thing. It's a highly functional pump frame ONLY.

So I started by removing all the mechanical pieces. Then, I mounted a very powerful neodynium magnet underneath the sear roller on the trigger. This gives the trigger a very snappy, fast, responsive pull. It's clear plastic sex mounted in dust black aluminum.

At the beginning of the 2k9 season, I was in a rush to get the gun running. The frame was packed with just the board and wires. I ran for the first couple months in summer with the battery mounted outside of the frame. I was clipping it onto my tank, and I set the whole project by the wayside after a few events where I was stripping and twisting wires while under fire.

This was before a brief intimate encounter with a bridgeport. I had my tooling inside of every orifice that frame had.

In it's current state, I've roughed out the innards enough to hold the battery in the frame, with the board. I had to remove some material from each of the grip panels to get the battery in there.

It's hard to see what's going on with the pump handle. There is a linear bearing mounted on the top guide hole. It makes for a very smooth stroke with no play. Also on the top guide rod is a rubber bumper. To make the pump stroke quiet.

The back block is felted. And I'm very happy to be using a Slik nylatron bolt. It hides entirely within the block. Pretty sweet. With no hammer, and a bolt with no orings... You can imagine how smooth the stroke is.

The loudest part of the gun firing is the bolt hitting the detent. I'll be buying a plastic detent asap.

I wish the pics weren't so blurry. The Droid's camera leaves something to be desired.

Here's a trick... This was why I wanted the clear parts. But I will be looking into chemical polishing to make the parts really clear...

Teal

Blue

Green

Red

Next...

I plan on adding a real push button mounted into the frame. And will be adding a dovetail.

And I would very much be interested in trading the minied body for a full-length karnivor. If anyone is interested, they should pm me.

I would also like to mid block it. Not because it's trendy, but for functionality. I've hit my mask about 100 too many times. But I'm holding out for a long body... Will attempt to use a Hush bolt for Egos.

And... I would really like to do some 80s fantastic annodizing. Open to recommendations.

Also looking for an expert polisher. Who would be willing to do some dremel sculpting to blend the ccm frame into the karnivor body and vice versa. Also open to recommendations.

What?! No auto-trigger?!

Seriously, well done!

Love the linear bearing. Next time you have the grip open, take a pic. I know it can be a pain when you have them stuffed full.

I like the idea of sculpting that frame. With dundaduns frame, I liked the lines of the frame a lot, but they are a bit angular for a karni-body.

***

Buttons/switches are a pain no matter what you do. I don't like slider switches, but they are not that far behind everything else. Sealed switches are nice, just a pain to integrate.

Oh, ano on a karnivore - glossy and speckled is one I like (with minimal blue )

I really like that, especially the LED in the trigger. I'd suggest one of the old PE anodize colors, but I can't find any good pictures of all the colors. Anybody have a chart or something with all that?

I was thinking about this sort of an anodizing pattern... maybe.

That's one of those patterns that only you can say it is worth the cost (because it will cost extra).

If you sculpted the frame and carried off that ano, I personally would probably be afraid to play with it.

Haha. Yeah. Scared to play with it as is.

Even more scared to itemize the cost of all the stuff I've already done...
