| Post Whore Join Date: May 2006 Location: Valrico, Florida | Couple brass Q's, again. (structural, mostly) Some I've asked before, and didn't get much of an answer. So, let's lump them all up in one. Want to clear stuff up before I start soldering. Lewis Brass has a $450 minimum order, according to my emails to them. Which is more than I have for projects. Since I can't find 13/16" anywhere else, my next idea was to brace it with some 7/8" bits over it. Structurally sound, if correctly placed? Anyone know what Palmer's sells theirs for, roughly? I didn't get an answer last I sent them a message. I don't have any of the 7/8" OD, .745" ID on hand, but do have the bottom tube from my donor Magnum, which is a .04 sidewall. Which would make it... .795" ID. Strong enough to use for a 45* feedneck, or should I wait until I can get some .745 ID, or a solid bar and make an offset vertical? Anyone have an adapter for cheap? I'm thinking I will probably sell this project when I'm done. I have a Phantom I enjoy as my pump, and I'm pretty poor and starting college soon, hopefully. Compared to a PMI Magnum, or Piranha LB, with 'cocker-sprung lowers, and a .45 single-trigger slider frame, anyone have a rough value off the top of their head? Wishfull thinking, I know. Anyone else interested in ordering 13/16", .062 or .065 tubing? I'll throw in my share for an order if anyone else wants it. edit: Also, how do most of you manage to seal up the air-transfer hole between the two tubes? Mine keeps wanting to pull the solder through it and leave gaps.

| Lord humungus the Mod | I always use a tiny brass tube as an isert for the transfer hole. You can either buy the right sized tubing or cut your own on a lathe. -Jake

Even if I get out of paintballing I could always use the tubing for other projects. So just how much tubing does $450 buy a guy these days?

| Post Whore Join Date: May 2006 Location: Valrico, Florida | Well, I got an answer on Palmer's price. They appearently know it's impossible to get in small quantities and raise the price appropriately, or are giving you a heck of a deal on a piece already honed. Rud, I'd happily sell a piece to you out of my share. Even let my mill at it beforehand, if you have dimensions. Thanks for the glowing feedback, BTW. RG, I've had interest shown from someone else, too, and fired off a message to Lewis Brass. Earlier, they told me the price depends on the quantity, with no actual price or quantity mentioned. I just sent off another message, and should get a response on that relatively soon. I *tried* to hit the minimum, roughly estimated price-per-foot from other places, by volume. Even that needs adjusting, and even more if a third person's hopping on. We should get everyone that wants some on this! The more people join, the less a single person has to pay.

| Active Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Denver, Colo. | Well you could do what I did. I bought some of the 4130 steel tubing from Online Metals. Mainly because I thought the thinner wall might be a problem....It's pretty stiff, but I have yet to try cutting the feed yet. The idea that I had sometime back was to use Sch 40 steel pipe, and ream it to 11/16....A 9 in long reamer was around $12-$15 iirc....With some *very* careful welding, it'd prolly be possible to extended that some.... Catchya on the Flip Side..... Emerald Wolf -- hmmm.... |
