When I get some time I'll butcher one of the spare hammers I have floating around and see if I can get the velocity reliably lower.

THE-SHOOTIST Anyone chubbin' like me for this?
mailmanmike Since Monday! That's more than 4 hours though, so according to those cialis ads I should see my doctor.
tlane77 I think for a non-chemical chubby it's 6 hours before its time to see a doctor. So you should be good for another couple hours.
splattttttt I wasn't goin to google "chubbin" because I assumed it had to do with fat. The lard type, not the fun stuff. But what ever feelings Jeff's experiencing, then they must be of the fun like stuff...

I'm going to remake it with a larger face cupseal inside the hat, but haven't had shop time to do so yet.

I got a new job that I'll be starting in 2 weeks. It is a large enough of a raise that I'll be able to hire out production of some of my other kits that have been consuming my shop time to make ends meet, and once again devote my machines to prototype and development work.
How much clearance poppet to hat ID

Cupseal tail OD = .247", hat ID = .250".

Very cool! Is that the slam valve concept where you keep a reservoir of high pressure air behind the poppet to help close it?

Clearance seems pretty perfect then. Without the hat, how much higher would the velo be? I agree that reducing the hammer mass (or pressure of course) would be pretty ideal. I'm assuming that the valve is closing quick enough and the pressure + flow is just out of control on unregged...

beautiful machine work btw, I'd be a little concerned about AL on AL gauling so make sure to lube the poppet/hat interface!

A larger volume chamber will also help lower pressure.
Though about maybe building a valve that can accommodate two to maybe three times that of a common chamber?

Yup, this traps a pocket of air with a very restricted escape path to try and maintain a relatively constant closing bias.

No clue how much higher it is without the hat, I'd have to make a hat like spacer to keep the spring in the same relative position.

Lube is a must unless/until they get anodized. Or I could make one of the pieces out of something else, aluminum is just such a good combination of low cost, ease of machining, and ease of keeping tolerances with.

I'm a little late to the party but maybe you could make the poppet out of delrin and delete the oring seal and just seal with the poppet it self.
