Hey guys, i've gotten a little farther into the valve on my project phantom so I thought Id stop, take a couple photos and post up what I've got done so far. Have any of you guys used the Virtue Clock? I want a chrono, and it seems a little more portable/versatile than the Big Red I had my hopes pinned on.

Yoda sent me the "prints" to his slam valve, A lot of interesting Ideas but I dont have much steel kicking around, so im still using the stock valve nut. But while everyone else has their qualms about cutting up valve bodies, I have none and have since bobbed my valve and added a pressure gauge. I've also bored out the valve chamber, but I dont have have any way of measuring how much material Ive removed. Heres a photo of the valve chamber, the center hole is now .250", and the black spot on the right is the bypass hole which is .125".

Now after doing all of this stuff my valve was burping during the pump stoke, this got worse as the pressure from my CO2 tank got lower and lower. In order to combat this, I've tried to integrate the slam valve into my phantom. Because of the volumization, I couldnt use Yodas set up so this is what I came up with:

The oring is 1/4" OD and fits perfectly into the enlarged rear transfer port in my valve. The stock valve spring is used aswell, but was removed for a clearer picture. This turns the large hole into a piston, and the smaller 1/8th" bypass hole now feeds the valve chamber.

This did not tune out all of my burping issues, so I stopped looking at the valve itself. I noticed that the pump stroke wasnt very smooth, so I took my power tube out and turned down the tip a teeny bit. After a quick polish, I reinstalled the PT and gassed it up. This finally got rid of almost all of the burping! It will now only make a chirping noise when I pump it real hard, im hoping I can tune this out with changes to pressure and springing. This also smoothed my pump stoke out nicely.

I tired to fire some paint last night but got a very low velocity, maybe 150FPS. This was using a green main spring(soft), stock valve spring, Drilled TPC(all the way out), enlarged P/T, and unregged HPA (800psi). This result indicates to me that my input pressure is too high, I have a stabilizer set up ready to go but it was just to dam cold in the garage last night to keep testing.

Hey Yoda, am I using the "slam valve" label properly? Was it the modified valve retainer, or your pressure biasing system?

So I just put on my stabalizer set up, and as expected the velocity went up with a lower input pressure. Im now running @ 450psi with the exact set up as above. Without a chronograph I cant give exact numbers, but from how far I can see it shooting I think its well within the range of the TPC, likely around 250fps.

This is very exciting as Mike is going to be selling his regulator seperately, and one of the output settings is aprox. 450psi. That means that a mostly CCI sourced low pressure kit is feasible. Im sure it could go a bit lower, but my intention is to integrate Mike's regulator into my project so 450psi is where im going to be setting up my phantom(at least for the moment)

Nice work there.
Can't really say it's anything out of this world, but nice to see people are still interested in their quest on maximizing efficiency from a Nelson valve.
The magic number is 70 shots from a 12g under ideal conditions based on some genius's mathematical equation.

THE-SHOOTIST Anyone chubbin' like me for this?
mailmanmike Since Monday! That's more than 4 hours though, so according to those cialis ads I should see my doctor.
tlane77 I think for a non-chemical chubby it's 6 hours before its time to see a doctor. So you should be good for another couple hours.
splattttttt I wasn't goin to google "chubbin" because I assumed it had to do with fat. The lard type, not the fun stuff. But what ever feelings Jeff's experiencing, then they must be of the fun like stuff...

Good job! Glad to see this hasn't died yet.

170 shot calculated from a 12gram? You might want to check the math again.

~13.7J

Math:
Energy in the tank ... E = P1*V*ln(P1/P2)

Assumptions:
Isothermal phase change and expansion.
~6.8ci @ ~800psi prior to expansion.
Gas is released slow enough to maintain constant temp.

Dude, that's trolling by assumption.

You'll have to bring food to try that with CO2.

I guess it was dubbed the "magical number".
