I can make a little lip and an insert for that, no problem.

What do people think is a fair price for a test kit? I was planning on just time, materials, and shipping at this stage, I don't feel right making profit on prototypes.

Price for a kit...hrm. $40+? An insert would sweeten the deal for me, as would an o-ring inside the valve nut to seal against the powertube.
Same here, but don't sell your self short. Time is money.

THE-SHOOTIST Anyone chubbin' like me for this?
mailmanmike Since Monday! That's more than 4 hours though, so according to those cialis ads I should see my doctor.
tlane77 I think for a non-chemical chubby it's 6 hours before its time to see a doctor. So you should be good for another couple hours.
splattttttt I wasn't goin to google "chubbin" because I assumed it had to do with fat. The lard type, not the fun stuff. But what ever feelings Jeff's experiencing, then they must be of the fun like stuff...

to run them in a phantom all you need is the valve body/asa, valve nut, valve shaft, cup seal, cup seal nut, hammer/sear/pt.

The current prototype with the conical cupseal and relocated spring looks nice- very Maddman-esque, and probably the closest to an unimpinged flow into the powertube I could imagine. The new Tracers have some very high-flow power tubes that might be worth looking at- based on the pics, the port diameter is nearly the same as the tube diameter.

Would it be possible to figure out exactly what volume the valve needs to have for each shot? It'd be what, .0015in^3 or so for unregged CO2? With no spring in the way, it would be easier to tune it such that the valve body holds precisely enough for one shot, and potentially make it 'stick' in an axially-located inlet, so that gas stops flowing into the body while the valve is open, and the incoming gas quickly closes the valve, as well.

I'm envisioning a small-diameter port, and the tip of that conical cupseal body acting as a piston to jam it up so long as air is flowing past.

The external spring is a brilliant idea, and it looks well executed. It would be interesting to play with shims to see what range of spring stiffness you can get on it.

I've seen some people throw around the idea of devolumizing once the spring is removed. It's worth experimenting with, but in my experience devolumizing is far overrated in terms of giving usable efficiency, leading to excess liquid use on a fresh cartridge. Impeding boil-off from liquid to gas in the valve chamber actually hurts efficiency (big time, too) once you are sucking liquid out of the valve.

Also remember that low pressure/high volume will always be a better platform for 12 gram performance, since it basically removes liquid waste from the realm of possibility once you step pressure down far enough to guarantee boil-off in the valve chamber. This is obvious in our fiddling with the Sniper platform. The problem with Nelsons is that nobody has ever come up with a purely LP-based internal set, so the advantage of low pressures is offset by the inefficiency of running the gun outside of its preferred range.
