barbs and tapping for them

I need to tap for a barb, however I hear there are numerous types of barbs. some say there are 3 main types with five being common though. I am told the threading is in three general sizes, with some having different exteriors hence the five types.

So what I need is the most common size for a barb and suited tap. I can always go with using macro and a standard reg that does sub 100 PSI.

This is not entirely a paintball project.

10-32 is a common thread size and barbs are available for them. I use that size because the taps are easy to come by and you can plug holes with screws that you probably have on hand. 10-32 barbs work out to be on the larger end of the spectrum so you can get better flow but they tend to take up a bit of space. If you head on over to Air Soldier you can look around at what is commonly available:

Thats great news as I have a 10-32 tap already.

Thank you. And the higher flow rate is a plus for my app.
