Removing black coat from PGP

I'd like to remove the black powder coat(?) from my newly acquired pgp. What's the best way to go about doing this. Will it just polish off? Or should I sand it? Use a chemical? I searched and I was surprised to find that this hasn't come up yet.

Edit: And this is a pgp2k, so it's the newer finish. Apparently the old ones are coated with something else?

Any paint stripper will work. You will get several people chimming in with their favorites but any type will work. Just soak it for a bit then give it a scrub with a green scratchy pad...make sure to wear gloves.

Paintstrippers such as citrastrip work well, but if you have a nice dark finish, I'm sure you could find somebody to trade you a polished/stripped one.

It's actually been discussed a few times, probably in the Armory-Sheridan section. I've tried Greased Lightning with mixed success. I'm not positive, but I think it darkened the brass somewhat. Or, it is a strange earlier brass....look almost like copper piping. My next step is using some BIX. I'll let you know how that turns out.

I am fairly certain my dremel will be coming out at some point with a soft buff wheel.

using a Dremel to polish a whole gun is pissin' in the wind IMHO. you'd be better off using a bigger cotton buff in a cordless drill.

as for removing the black finish... use a stripper as others have mentioned, and get some Scoth Brite pads and rub it down.

From my experience, Aircraft Remover works well.

Leave it on long enough, and I have no doubt it actually *could* remove an unwanted aircraft. Gloves are a must.

Get an unwanted tupperware containr and soak it for a while outside.

Aircraft stipper works well, but isn't operator friendly, with the vapors or skin contact. Citrastip works well and is neutralized with water. Still wear gloves though.

i've used the Citrastrip and it worked decent, but not as good as Aircraft Stripper. although the Citra was pleasent to use. the vapors aren't anywhere near as bad and can be used without worries of ventilation. those Aircraft vapors are the strongest vapors i've ever dealt with. be carefull with that stuff.
