Distance increasing bolt

Would it work? The idea is that a burst of air is focused to the bottom of the ball, imparting backspin on it. The only thing that might not make it work would be friction on the barrel. It might work if you have a small barrel with a large bore.

Thoughts?

Been done, look up the undershot bolts that Cooper-T makes. It adds range but it does require a larger bore barrel.

He pretty much doesn't make anything anymore...so whoever is up for producing them is right on the spot.

Actually it has to be a spefic length for a given pressure and ball to bore fit. 10-14" is the ballpark. Barrel has to be over-bored and not exactly smooth there is also a need for lower velocity for the effect to work. Basically it is a gimmick no matter all the science behind it it has far worse "accuracy" than a standard barrel. As the game is played now those that take the long shots consistently are not in the game and playing they are on the fringe waiting for a hail mary to work.

HP_Lovecraft did a bit of a writeup about DIY undershot bolts. If you have an extra bolt, I don't see the harm in trying it out.

Yep - Alien guns have what Rice calls the "sweep" bolt system, which is exactly the same as what's being discussed here.
