Yea it will be into aluminum. I have another asa to compare with.
I will show you the project when I am finished.
Now just have to wait for the tap to be delivered. About a week or so

I have only had this lathe for about 2 months setup. I am finding lots of stuff to make.

I was thinking about holding a little ASA and trying to tap it, but I guess you would finish out the inside and then clean up any jaw marks. Order of operations...

This is what sent me to Bacci to get an old ASA to thread (on the outside). What are the odds that the cheap tap is cheap in the right direction? That would be nice to have an ASA tap.

well, you can just finish the outside and in the inside in one operation... by holding on the bar. and then cut it off and finish the other side. that is the production-oriented order of operations

I would also suggest a die. Run that over what you are threading into the ASA if you can because I have found that not all paintball things intended to go into an ASA will fit something tapped with an 1/2-NPS tap.

... and then how well is it going to fit into an actual ASA? you start re-threading regs and tanks with a die, you might be setting someone up for a serious safety concern.

No not re-threading... I don't like the odds...
Just need to build a few custom asa's. Nothing really fancy. Maybe even chase a bad thread if need be.
