Making a dummy co2 cartridge

My instructors in my machining class dont believe that I could make a dummy cart out of machine (mild) steel that will handle the pressure coming from my air tank.

They think I'm going to blow myself up with 800psi going through it. Aren't they wrong? If macroline can hold 800psi, mild steel should be no issue, right?

I'm making this part in order to run my Ariakon overlord with constant air btw.

Shouldn't be a problem, other then mild steel will start to corrode over time. Flash rust will be your new friend. Otherwise commercially available ones are made out of aluminum (thats what I used for mine on my Zeus).

yes you can make them from mild steel
aluminum is easier to cut, and thats what i've made them with in the past

use an "R" drill to drill about 3/4 of the way through the body, then use a smaller drill as the pierce pin hole, tap with 1/8npt and your done

bring in a 12gm (empty) and cut it in half... you'll realize how little material is actually needed

Be careful... The cartridge is made from deep draw steel, which may be stronger than plain old mild steel (I have, in the past, simply drilled a hole in a dead cartridge and then brazed on a fitting. Not too safe, but then again, I as 16 at the time, and indestructible )

With just threading I could never get a good air seal. If I brazed it, it was a permanent fix Boy was I crazy/stupid when I was younger

So would I be better off making it out of aluminum? I plan on leaving the walls as thick as possible
