Shocker pump... shump?

I've got a shocker that just sits in my closet and never gets used and I have just discovered that it no longer turns on (fresh battery and everything) I was thinking, maybe I can pump it
Has anyone done this with a shocker before?

The thing is that it's easier to pump an Ion since it's an unbalanced spool, but I'd think it'd be a heftier job to pump a balanced spool like a shocker.
