Anodizing a Alloy

Hi guys, This is actually a Non paintball Related post, But Im hoping someone may be able to help me out.

So Here is the story and where I am so far:

My Goal is to do a Red and White Acid wash on a Lacrosse shaft, Then laser etch a name and number on a shaft for a Team Ontario Lacrosse player.

However, Lacrosse shafts (Pretty much all of them) are Alloy's USUALLY the higher end shafts are 7075 Aluminum alloy. a 30$ shaft is a 6000 series.

My question is, While we anno paintball guns all willy nilly, Can I do the same to a lacrosse shaft?

I asked Ton6er's and was told their equipment cannot handle something as long as a shaft, contacting another persons who does ano and he said "if you can get me some of it, I'll try it. no guarantee's "

Thus I have asked a few sports stores around here to save any lacrosse shaft bits they cut off, But otherwise still stuck. I dont want my project to be grounded so quickly.

Anyone have some old lax shafts they are willing to chop to let me experiment?
does anyone have any advice for anodizing a material like this?

The cheaper 6k series is going to take the red better.

My experience with 7k series is that it takes longer for the dye to set in and the color just doesn't look as deep as with 6k or 5k alloys.

It is long so it wont fit in most baths. If I was doing it I would get long underbed totes for the tanks (if you wanted mil spec double rinses it would cost a bunch in just totes) to make the baths, heating the dye bath would be tricky but possible, it would take some time to get the whole thing to temp. Anoing something long and skinny would require a few long plates slightly bent, maybe I would cut an aluminum pipe in half long ways and section it to try and keep current as consistent as possible, especially with the 7k series to try and get an even color over something that long.

It wouldn't be easy to do by a small shop and would cost a serious chunk of change I would imagine in the $400-$500 range from a small guy willing to alter his setup to achieve what you want. Larger operations that will do one off custom work might even be more for wasting their bath time on a one off.

that was the response I got back, Talking to the guys on the other end, even at a industrial facility, with the vats that they use it would be relegated to just one colour.

Anyways, I'll Be searching for a different route. talking around and seeing what I can do

I have used these guys (and so has CCM)

Home - Chico Metal Finishing

I have also heard good things about this company from a machining forum

Our Anodizing Process | Chicago Anodizing Company

I would assume that either one would easily be able to handle the size of the stick as for color choices or graphic annodizing I know the first is limited to single colors, I dont know about the second.
