This. Depending on the original finish, I will use alcohol, WD40 or diluted Simple Green and fishing line or dental floss to slide through the tape.

You can also typically pull it at a shallow angle much like you do with a command strip. It depends a lot on the substrate on the VHB. We have one here that uses a white foam like substrate and it is extremely hard to remove if you mess up. We also have a black one that is more rubbery and it pulls off nicely like a command strip. Both hold extremely well and are tough.

Probably the most accessable and easy to work with is going to be the stuff at Home Depot and Staples.

Home Depot stuff is sold as Scotch indoor/outdoor mounting tape. The gray substrate has a relatively hard durometer so its easy to work with. If you need to cut a piece, just score the tape enough to cut the red backing and pull to tear.
Scotch 1 in. x 1.66 yd. Exterior Mounting Tape-411-DC at The Home Depot
I use so much I get the big roll.
Scotch 1 in. x 37-1/2 ft. Indoor/Outdoor Mounting Tape-411-LONG/DC at The Home Depot

The stuff at Staples is clear and its more gooey.
VHB Tape | StaplesŪ

This stuff sticks fantastic, after about 6 months of adhesion, its just about permanent.

The white substrate VHB we were using back in the late 80's was nearly permanent. To remove it from bare aluminium we used a torch to burn it, then sanded off the residue... Seemed to be the fastest, easiest method. (Ok, it was the most fun )

Brass Monkey Customs

Brass Freak, Freak XL compatible and Equation inserts in .670, .678, and .685 (As I no longer have access to the machine to make certain sizes, I will not be replacing any which go out of stock.)

Still selling brass tubing, with .678 barrel stock now available!

My feedback: MCB - eBay - AO
