Can it still use a tank/cylinder if the kinetic energy isn't being used directly/indirectly to propel the ball? I.e. low pressure only for moving rams etc, using significantly less HPA/CO2 than it would take to actually shoot a round.

Also I think .50cal might be a better size for this sort of thing.

Odds are I will not have time to participate but I have been kicking around the idea of an electric powered centrifugal gun for years. I think the main problem would be powering it. From a marketability stand point your advantage is that you dont need a bulky tank but that point is kinda moot when you need a back pack of batteries instead.

I suppose as long as the tank isn't providing the actual stored energy for launching the ball then its allowed. As for the caliber, lighter rounds would be easier to fire but not everyone can get their hands on odd caliber paint and it provides an even playing field if its the same for everyone. I think I'm gonna start this up for real, what sort of deadline would be good? I was thinking make it a winter project, due date Feb 1st?

This sounds awesome. It's been too long since the lat build off. Feb 1st sounds good to me.

So its 1 shot, 225-300fps, no hpa or co2 directly driving the paintball? Any other stipulations or subcategories?

I'm in for Feb 1st also.

Hey, if you can pull off full auto then power to you! But yeah, that was all I was thinking for the rules. No cash limit or anything, just do whatever you can come up with! Being secretive is fine but I would like it if some people would do updates just to keep the thread alive. May the challenge begin!!

As kindof a follow up on typhons question as far as any other stipulations, shouldn't the gun/marker/launcher/device be at least playable? As in a piece of equipment that could hypothetically be used in a game? So something that could be carried and shot in a relatively efficient effectictive manner?

Yes, that one never made the jump from brain to keyboard. If it has to run on train tracks it probably wont be that effective. I don't want to put too many limits on this one just because I want to see an array of different ideas and keep it interesting. Also for the co2 or hpa driving the ball, as long as it doesn't come from a tank or cartridge its ok, ie hand pumps or chemical reactions.

Chemical reactions?! Muwahahahahahahahaaaaaaa! I'm not gonna join in the fun, but that could make it interesting. Wouldn't the para ordinance mod 85 already fall into this category with the exception of the velocity limit?

I will definitely be following this thread.

Steam pumps, chainsaw powered centrifugal guns, and cannons oh my.

I think my design could theoretically be used in a game.. A most dangerous game.. You just wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of a round fired a bit too hot LOL
