Those soft inserts are working so much better than metal ones. No fight to get them out, just make sure nothing is caught and they slide right out. So much time saved right there.

Made two pours today.

My CNC mill works now. I cut a cone slot last night and took video. However, it's a little boring and long for what it is. I will edit it down a little and post it up. The best news is that now I can finish all of the cones and start putting things together.

There are 3 of them, and they go into both sides of the mold. I put the larger diameter in and then put the molds together. The material is flimsy enough that it might not have gone into the other mold half. I did a little massaging as I put the mold halves together, but can only see where one insert goes in to know that it is in. The other two, well, we will see when the mold is opened.

The short version: I'm making parts again. Not sure if my recent soft insert idea will work. Find out tonight.
you could make ypur inserts out of wax and melt them out afterwards.

Is the ball stack under continuous pressure when the loader is wound?

I had reached out to the company that makes the plastic. They said the plastic cures at about 200F. From my wax research that is just a touch too high. It was certainly on my list though. If these soft inserts had failed, I would have been trying wax just to see the results.

That is correct. Similar to when the HALO preloaded paint.

Perfect! I'm running one of these on my A5:

And it needs tension on the stack to feed properly. Man, the Dust Devil is going to look so badass on there...

Here is the video from the first cuts I made with my CNC machine. This is on a scrap part, which is why you see some dremel grooves already in the area where the tool is cutting.

I got the proper width groove tool in the mail, so I can make the center shafts. I had made a few with a .093 blade, but that cuts things too close. the design calls for a .125 width blade.

I also got 4 of each cast part trimmed up over the last weekend. Once center shafts are cut, the first 4 will be ready.

The down side, is that my wife is out of town for work. That leave me with the boys, not a problem, but exhausting. I have crashed shortly after they have this whole week. Won't be able to get anything done until Tuesday night.

Nice CNC mill, the table on that thing looks very convenient compared to using a vice. How do you set the origin and alignment relative to a part you are modding though, is there a scope built in or something?
