Modding my classic mag

Hey MCB. I've got these:

I want to put them together. What would be the best way to do it? I thought about it and came up with this:

The stair step would go against the front of the rail and the hole would house the foregrip screw, probably with a recessed hole for a nut on the bottom rather than being threaded. This should keep it from wobbling with only the foregrip screw. The slot in the front would house a short rail like this and allow some fore/back adjustment to fit:

Thoughts? Anybody see a simpler, or perhaps more effective way to do this?

Clamp-on picatinny adapter for shotguns. Just clamp it onto the barrel, and the backside of the AFG actually slides over the groove of the classic rail. You probably have to adjust the underside of the clamp to get it to sit exactly right; it's a little slanted here in my mockup.

You lose the twist-lock functionality, but I personally don't think the twist-lock is all that useful anymore.

Goatboy:
Could just clamp it farther up on the barrel. That way I could keep the twistlock. Not everyone has a lv10 :P
I remember you contracted a lot of parts for your springfed mag out to a 3d printer. How much were they a piece?

The crossman stock looks really sharp on a mag, thats for sure.

Oh you can keep your twistlock; you just can't use it. That clamp on picatinny just represents the near-zero-effort way of getting the job done with, you know, spare parts I had laying around.

You can slide it forward on the barrel to clear the rail, but the problem is the AFG still wiggles while on a picatinny. I suspect that as you play, you may wind up accidentally rotating your barrel. You need something to prevent that, hence why I left it mated against the backside.

I used Shapeways for my parts. It's $1.40/cm^3 for white nylon, plus shipping and handling. I'd say offhand the part you drew up would probably be $20-$25.

For example:

https://www.shapeways.com/model/1230671/toprail-2.html

That part is $21.59. There are ways to reduce the cost since it's mostly tied to volume.

In your case, what I would do is integrate the clamp and the picatinny together -- the picatinny will have a slice right down the middle so it clamps against the barrel when you slide the AFG over it. That makes everything nice and low profile and still very solid.. After that, the only problem you need to solve is the AFG lock itself, which might be just replacing that screw with a pull-pin or just a thumbscrew. Probably a feature they should have put on the AFG in the first place.

Slightly more complicated, but in the end you might come up with something that other people will want. In fact, having described it, now I want one. Maybe I'll draw one up...
