You could cycle it damn near any way you wanted to as well, not just pump. It would make a great lever action project. I kept saying it was possible on PBN when people would argue about it and nobody seemed to want to listen Should be able to adapt the theory to just about any spool valve marker out there, regardless of whether it requires a 3-way valve or a 4-way valve. General theory: Separate the single x-way valve into a series of less than x-way valves. In the Ion, it requires 2 2-way valves (both normally closed). Either the tail ring mod or what I describe below is required. You should be able to do it to a Matrix (or any other spool that can be made to shut off the gas flow) with 2 3-way valves, both normally closed. You could do it to a spool that doesn't typically shut off flow by using a 3-way valve (NC) to fire the gun, and a 5-way (1 input, 2 output, 2 independent vents) to both fill the chamber and push the bolt rearwards. You would have to block the vent for the chamber on the valve to keep it from venting. You should also be able to use a 3-way valve with a tee going to the bolt reset and the chamber, with a check valve inline to the chamber. Single pic, no video (no video camera sadly). ![]() The fittings are dirt cheap on Poweraire [ Over 500,000 Pneumatic Parts 1-(800) 526-7661 ] - Poweraire.com , a little slow on shipping but considering the same number of fittings on MSC was looking to cost ~60 bucks, the 25 dollar price (shipped)was worth it (I have a lot more than was shown in the pic). The hosing is from Hobbyhorse. The 2 2-way valves are SMC valves from MSC. |

Any chance you could get some pics of it, I'd love to see how other people are approaching mounting the pump arm and valves. | |

How it works...he told me but he is a very technical type, I'm simple. looks like he used a much different method than the pics show. He milled out a tray to house the air lines and uses a cocker frame. That is really all I could tell you. If you come to Spring Pump Event he will be there and you all could compare methods.

| MCB Member | Ok I don't have any pics of it but it was really simple. The one in the picture above is making it too complicated. for the ion to cycle you need to have equal pressure front and back of the bolt. Since the front has a larger diameter the bolt is pushed back, when the pressure in the front is released the bolt goes forward and as the airway passes the o-ring in the bolt stop the air in the rear chamber is allowed out and the ball is propelled forward. What all this means is all you have to do is supply regulated air to a tee fitting one line going to the rear fitting the other going to a valve ( I used a cocker 3 way with three o-rings like an ANS) that a has a blocked air chamber while neutral and will vent the front air chamber and cut off the supply air when cycled. Then i made a new 3 way stem to use a WGP out of stainless steal because the ANS would start leaking after awhile. The o-rings couldn't take the 160 psi. With the tray I made i use a slider frame (I love shocktec frames) and made the reg horizontal and use it for the pump handle guide. for any more secrets you'll have to come to SPE I'll see if I can get pics up soon.
