If you were to fill the hole with the same alloy rod you'd never tell the difference once everything was profiled and re-anodized.

That's partially true. But just the mere act of heating a material to melting point introduces impurities and changes the alloy. And how does one decide he has a 600 series aluminum as opposed to a 800 series without a chemical analysis or a statement from the manufacturer?

Meanwhile, you're right. Once everything was profiled, there won't be a noticeable difference, regardless of alloy.

(I just want to up my post count so I can play Asteroids.)

You can determine the alloy a multitude of ways. Annodizing being the easiest...besides your almost gauranteed to working with 6061 if your talking cocker bodies.

Different alloys will take to coloring the anodized layer differently, which is why you would notice the change in color on the filled hole(if you used a different filler). The same series alloy will be near perfect. Its also dependant on how accomplished the welder is. The less sheilding gas/filler rod the less impurities. Also the holes are so small Id like to see if they could be autogenous welds(no filler).

You don't know that.

WGP has always used proprietary material in their bodies. I.E. theoretically 80 series. 6061 is good assumption because it's a common material. But you don't know. Even if you talk to the manufacturer. THEY likely don't even know what they've got on the shelve or where it came from.

Introduction of impurities? Will happen regardless of the welder's talents. To what extent is unknown. Re anodizing will leave a color difference unless the whole body is resurfaced. To what extent is also unknown.

The big question is how far will you go? Do you want the most perfect repaired cocker body on the planet or do you just want to make it look nice under the scrutiny of average joe shmoe at the field?

And if I don't get the flippin 15 post count to play asteroids, I'm gonna shoot myself!!!

Hook up an LED light to the eye sensor, in theory you could make it so that whenever there is a ball in the breech the light is either on or off. Never blank fire again.

I use the little plastic hole plugs that you can get at the hardware store that builders use to cover the drain lever holes in sinks. They screw/thread right in and leave a finished look rather then an ugly stickered up gun look.

drill it through to the other side so it matches.

Seriously, someone should make threaded caps (skull, clover, heart, etc) that could thread into the hole and give it a custom jewel appeal.
