| Sand paper harming anno possibilities? Well I just picked up a Razorback II and wanted to fix er up a little. There are numerous scratches, most large enough to warrant sanding. One of my buddies who is a little more knowledgeble in these aspects told me once upon a time to refrain from sanding anything I want to anno due to the fact that the grits of sand will get into the metal and the anno will turn out poorly. Just wondering if this was the case? I may have more questions later but I think this should suffice for now. All help much appreciated!

| How deep are the scratches? Could you use a wheel and buff them out or are you talking hand polishing them with automotive sand paper? Also... sand paper is made with garnets generally... and not so much sand anymore. You can do hand polishing with fine grit abbrasive paper... you just have to make sure it's clean afterwards. E

| Lord humungus the Mod | The anodizer will have to clean it prior to anno anyways...and not just a normal clean! The sand paper wont affect your "down the road" possibilties of anodizing. Chances are the gun will either be beadblasted of polished anyways. The only issue would be if you went straight from sanding to media blasting without a full clean. The blasting will actually pound grit and oil into the surface of the metal. Everything else is fine. The marker goes through 3 cleaning/prep stages before it touches the electrolight bath. -Jake

| Thanks for the quick reply's boys. Sounds like using some automotive sand paper to clean things up won't do any harm? We will see, if it does I can always powdercoat it right? One last question, will it be ok to play with it while it's raw? Should I wait until I am ready to anno before I take the old anno away at all with sandpaper? I don't intend on sanding the whole marker, just the spots that need it. Again, thanks for the help guys!

| Lord humungus the Mod | You can play with it while raw so long as the internals are riding on an anodized surface. -Jake

| For a mirror shine on my SL 68 I went through several complete stages of paper. 80, 100, 200, 400, 600, 1000, 1400, 1600, 1800 and 2000. It wasnt until I hit 2000 that I noticed a big difference when hit with mothers mag and aluminum polish. But when that went on it was like looking into a mirror. I have never gone further than the initial polish but thats also because if I tried to anno that pot metal I am told it would for the most part dissolve in the cleansing stages. For your situation I would skip the 80-200 unless the scratch is real deep then id go down to the 200. Now I am also told that if I were to have do it to a gun not made of low end aluminum pot metal that it would come out perfectly.
