With the re-release of the MQ2 valves.. Reincarnating the Aedes?

The thought came to mind that with MQ2s availiable new again, building an Aedes style marker wouldn't be incredibly difficult.. mostly off the shelf parts.. only the bolt and body would have to be machined.. (using a Merlin Extrusion)

Anyone else see any promise in this? Or any interest?

For reference:
Quote:

The point to this is.. I don't think recreating the Aedes would be outlandish.. Assuming there isn't any commercial application, the patents aren't an issue. and a complete marker capable of up to 54 bps (yes, that's balls per second, not cycles per second) at 1.6 lbs is downright amazing.. Entirely unnecessary with Minis shooting 15 at 2lbs and $250, but eh..

Less than 7" x 7"
Reciprocating mass: 8g (new record?)
Full shot cycle: 18.4ms (54+ cps)
PSI: ~280 @300fps
Shots per 68/45: ~1500
Strip-clean upper tract with the pull of a pin.
Mechanical 2-stage anti-chop (think LVL10 bolt)
Not to mention the unique aspect to it.

I'd be interested! Just because I can buy a marker that shots just as fast for less doesn't mean I want it. I'd rather have something a little more unique, and built in the U.S.

Well, that raises a question.. I was guessing that I couldn't make these for others, since I don't have the permission of the MQ patent owners.. (was thinking along the lines of a collaboration)

That said.. if I'm buying MQ valves from MTX.. does it matter?

Make a pump version! Ask MTX and get Colin from DW on board and everything should be good.

There wouldn't be any issue from the MQ patent holders (if it's even been issued yet) as long as the valves are not cloned and are legitimate.

The real potential issue is that Colin has an application in for the Aedes. Not that he would necessarily be unwilling to let people do things with it, but it is still a larger legal issue than the availability of the valves.

Well. The thing is still very possible. DW may not have the intent to produce the gun, and would be ok with just getting royalties off a small production run.

I would be interested in a gun.

Yes.. I'm definitely going to contact Colin here in the next few days. If all goes well, hopefully will order the parts around the first of the month (or whenever I get paid)

Alpha, you're local. Might even get some beta testing.

Wow.. interest... hmm. I should say, I'd be working out of the university machine shop.. so definitely no large-scale production.. we'll see if I could put together a small run though.

Anyone happen to know the output signal of say a UL frame.. or the input signal of an MQ2 valve (same as the output of a Eblade).. or have a scope handy to check?
