Trracer Center Feed

So I'd like to make my new Trracer a centerfeed. I'd also like to give it a feed tube, custom stock, and make it lever action, but first things first!
The OD of the body is 1" and the wall thickness is about 0.18". A new hole would have to be cut in the top of the body. I figure a 1" copper T cut a bit would work nicely as a feedneck, but it would have to wrap around the body enough to cover where the old feedneck was. It could be soldered directly to the body or I could use small set screws.
Any suggestions? Should I stop now before ruining a perfectly good Trracer?

Just a hint, Aluminum cannot be soldered. Good idea with the T fitting, just make sure that the I.D. of the fitting is a hair bigger than 1" all the way through. I would secure it with set screws myself. If you need any help, there are alot of machinists/handmen here that would be willing, including myself.

how do you remove the standard feedneck though? i'm going a little crazy with this one since it seems to be solidly attached to the body.

curse you aluminum and your properties!
Using L type 1" copper pipe has (frome acehardware.com) 1.125" OD and 1.025" ID. It'll be snug, and I imagine some sanding will be involved. I've got some small screws that could be used, I just have to find a tap to match, or there's always my good friend JB Weld.
Taking the feedneck off I planned on using a Dremel with a cutoff wheel. I'll post pics as things progress.

Since, your going to have to slot the bottom of the tee anyways, you could easily bend it out a little bit to the perfect fit.

staus update:
feedneck is off. After a bit of working on it, I found that it is in fact threaded. It sort of broke off half way through cutting it and I had to work the rest of the threaded bits out with some pliers.
Instead of a 1" T, I found a nice 1"-3/4". I think the 3/4" will work better for a feeneck than a 1", especially since I had planned on using a feedtube.

Apply some heat to the joint, then unscrew it with a strapwrench.

The feeneck is now attached. I went with the JB Weld rout, and I only semi-regret it. As it cured, while I was at work, it shifted to the right about a degree or so. Not a big deal. However, with the added width on the body the pump needs to be modified a bit so it can travel all the way back. I'll get pics up soon.
I believe the next step is the feed tube. Then onto the stock.

Sorry about the delay, my camera and my computer were having a fight. Here we go, still have yet to mod the pump.
