I just got a "new to me" G3, and have a few questions on it. Is there a FAQ or anything like that around? Everything I've read suggests a mix of Dow 33 and oil for lube. Is there any problem using Dow 55 (I have a lot of that)? Also, what kind of oil? Paintball/pneumatic oil? Gun oil? Mineral oil? Also, how do I tell what board I have, and what board should I have? The bottom of the trigger guard is labeled DP UPG300B-056. Does that mean anything in particular, or is it just a serial number? Thanks for any help. |

You want to use a mix of Dow 33 and oil on the bolt. You can use Dow 55 only in the regulator, not on the bolt. Dow 55 will swell orings and you definitely don't want that on the bolt. You use the Dow 33 and oil mix to stop bolt stick. You want to use paintball oil as well. As for board you don't need anything but the stock board. I personally have an APE board but the stock board works. If you look at the board in your gun and it has a bank of 6 dip switches then you have the stock board. It has an optical switch. If your gun isn't working make sure the back of your trigger is shiny so it is reflecting on the sensor. Most aftermarket boards will have a micro switch instead of the optical switch. The number is the serial number.

You can also use Dow 33 on the regulator, just be aware that you'll have to apply it to the reg more often. Also, you should look through the top of the reg and see whether you have the red or the silver piston. If you have the silver piston you should contact DP IMMEDIATELY about getting the updated red piston. |

So I disassembled everything, re-lubed everything as per spec, reassembled, and it doesn't fire. Part of the problem is the optical sensor. The trigger isn't setting it off, but a shiny wrench does. All that does is make the solenoid click, though. Nothing more happens. Thoughts? What do the two tiny set screws below the barrel on the front of the gun do? Are those air passages of some sort? |

wrap some tin/aluminum foil on the trigger fang (that passes over the sensor). that should reflect the beam back. I did the same to my G3 and it worked just fine. I prefer the microswitch so I shortly ordered an APE board for the G3. If you ever decide to upgrade the board to be able to fine tune, you can most likely get a new Ape for about $50-60. Stock board is fine though... just throwing that option out there.

I polished the back of the trigger with a dremel tool, and it's tripping the sensor and making the solenoid click just fine now, but the gun's not acting like it has air. The reg is pressurised, but there doesn't seem to be any air in the gun itself. If I take the two little "set screws" out of the front, there's no air leaking out or anything, which I would expect. Suggestions? |
